Has anyone received any news from first assessments?

It doesn't close till the 25th does it..?

Don't suppose anyone knows how quick these things normally move after closing date..? I understand heavy rail can be an extremely slow process - I guess Metrolink would probably be the same..?

Hmmm... well, anyone know if you can at least expect a 'no' email if you've not made it past the application form stage?

The blinds were on the old T68 trams to keep out the saloon lights behind you and needed to be upright during daylight. The new M5000 trams have tinted glass so you didn't get the reflection in the windscreen.

My own view is that Id never be driving express trains now if it wasn't for the experience I gained at Metrolink.About Nine of my former colleagues have gone on to be new drivers on the heavy rail so it's a good stepping stone.

Driving street / light rail trams is the best stepping stone in my opinon. With their mix of near heavy rail running and street running, not to mention tough shifts that require 100% concentration at all times with minimal breaks and sound rules knowledge, your tram driver is ideal material for heavy rail.

Well that's quite nice to know I must say :)

Sadly I've not heard anything at all; nearly a month on from the closing date (though I guess with possibly thousands of applications to whittle down it could indeed take a verrrrry long time!)

I attended an assessment day on 17 March and have passed all the tests and assessments. There were 10 of us there and, after the first test, we were down to 6, and following the second, were down to 4. All of us then passed the rest of the assessment and I have had a letter saying I've been successful and now awaiting medical and start date. I don't know if they are having any further assessment days.

Blimey... Was that from the application batch that closed on February 25th then?

Just checked. No... I had attended the Recruitment Fair in February 2014, and had pretty much given up hope, when I was invited to apply by email in December 2014, with a closing date of 16th January 2015, and told if I hadn't heard by 1st February, then I was unsuccessful. I heard back from them on 21st January, that I was through to next round, and then, on 9th February, was invited to the assessment day in March.

I presume from that they had sifted through those who had already expressed an interest and then took further applications in February. Gives you some kind of idea of their timescales though.

Maybe, I think my natural pessimism is taking over a bit!

I've emailed their customer services address to ask if they might have any rough idea, as suggested by their Twitter feed...

Hmm nearly 2 months since closing date... my hopes have almost been extinguished now:cry:

Well I haven't had an email saying no yet which is what my hopes are still based on.

I was told that Metrolink do reply to everyone regardless, and it took the chap a couple of posts previous a year!

Pessimistic maybe but they will have had thousands of applications so maybe considered for the next round.

I guess so.. unless they've had so many this time around that they've had to change their policy and only let people know who've been successful! :(

Got a Metrolink branded letter in the post today... heart skipped a beat... opened it... they were just telling me I would get a cheque in the post for £2 due to a faulty ticket machine...

D'oh!

Wait times for LRV driver / inspector vary immensely. Some wait a week, some wait 7/8 months, depending on requirement (new lines opening, staff leaving etc).

Medical is a 30 minute thingy. Drugs, alcohol, blood pressure, weight, height, hearing, eyesight test, breath volume test, simple medical questionnaire form.

my first post guys. here is my experience with metrolink application. I applied in march, HR phoned me 2 days later to ask if i could attend testing the next evening. there was about 12 of us at first then 6 for second tests. i then heard nothing until end of May but i was on holiday when they left a message on my answer phone at home. I phoned up as soon as I got back to explain, the HR lady was great and said don't worry i haven't missed my chance.
then weirdly she phoned me the next day to ask if could attend interview and testing 2 days later, after the interview and tests they offered me the job then subject to passing medical. i now start Monday 20th July. good luck to anyone in the process
