Hi I have been invited to attend an assessment day on the 7th of October for a driver position with Metrolink
the day will be as follows
07.00 - 07.15 Driving License Check
07.15 - 08.00 Psychometric Testing session (Test 1)
08.00 - 08.30 Break & Results from Test 1
08.30 - 09.15 Psychometric Testing session (Test 2)
09.15 - 10.45 Break & Results from Test 2
10.45 - 11.30 LRV Simulator Test/Written Test
11.30 - 12:30 PA Announcement
12.30 - 13.30 Lunch & Results from LRV Simulator Test and PA Announcement.
I do appreciate if someone shed some lights on those tests. what is the LRV Simulator test and the Announcement test? and what is test 1 and test 2 ?
I do understand there will be SCAAT and GLOP and if it is not GLOP what the text will be about ?
they didn`t send me any practice material .Thanks

1st psychometric test is the SCAAT
2nd psych test is cables and dials
simulator is as it says, you'll drive one of the lines it's not difficult nothing to catch you out, it's more about obeying speed boards (signs). it's not a video more like cheap computer game. we use this when we're learning new lines.
PA announcement. you sit in the cab and read off a sheet over the internal PA on the tram, there will be short one, a one long and one you have to make up from given information. you'd be surprised how many people can't speak over a PA system.
the written test will be something like tell me about your journey here, IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS (I think) the content is irrelevant do-not do more than the required words, again its about obeying instruction. hope this helps and good luck

Can you tell us how they contacted you - email, phone call or letter? Also, is this the first communication you've had with anyone from Metrolink?

Thanks very much Woody for your reply.I was wondering if there will be a TRP test which is the text you read and take notes after that they collect the notes and you answer multiple choice questions. And for the announcement that you make ,is it will be about disruption or delay?
And for the written test do you just describe which way you took to get to depot ?
I am sorry if iam asking for more details .i just don`t wanna mess it up.Thanks

when i did tests there was no TRP test, (18 months/2 years ago) and as far as I am aware its the same but obviously i could be wrong, the question was
"IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR JOURNEY HERE" you could write
" i left home got on the number 23 bus and changed at X and got another bus which was number 24 and got off at the stop opposite queens road depot, i then reported to security and walked down hill to the waiting area"
thats 44 words and only a sentence or two, its about listening and obeying instruction, whether written or verbal. maybe use something better, it's just an example.
the announcement will be about delays and disruption. the first couple will be paragraphs that you read out verbatim and the third one you will be asked to read a paragraph and make your own announcement up, but you will have the sheet in front of you. it doesn't have to be war and peace just clear and giving relevant information. when speaking over the PA system slow down don't mumble and make it understandable, you will only get 1 go
i will look for a trainer and ask for some info tomorrow and i will post if find anything out

How did you get on Pop79?

I had a call from Metrolink a couple of weeks ago (similar questions to those you posted on here) but there was no mention of an assessment day. I was told I'd hear back at some point but they didn't specify when - not heard anything since. Maybe I didn't answer well enough :|
