If they think they're going to slip that one through without a massive political stink being kicked up, they're living in a dream world.The Sunday Times said:Train companies have reportedly lobbied the government to ban split ticketing, which is permissible under the rail network's conditions of carriage. Transport department sources said the government welcomed moves "to increase competition".
The Rail Delivery Group which represents operators and Network Rail, said split tickets were "often a more complicated" way of buying and using tickets.
I think they will manage it, by switching eventually to smart ticketing and at the same time introducing compostage, whereby a ticket would be valid only if stamped/touched in at a station within its validity.
