Called today to confirm payment and case closed, the lady confirmed both. I just hope they don't notice this is my second time and take it further, fingers crossed they don't. This is the last from me in thIs thread, I hope I don't have to open it again in the near future.

In Cardiff, it's always worth seeing the faces when there is a Revenue block on, and mugs ask for "A ticket from Grangetown/Cathays/Newport"...

At least with gates there should be a consistent approach to checks and not the can I/can't I buy at the station lottery which is the current approach. I know you should have a ticket before travel but issuing FTP's should apply to all cases not when they fancy doing it.

Tbh I'm astonished it's taken this long to install gates.

In my opinion, any fare evader who asks for a short fare from Newport should be shot on the spot for sheer stupidity.

Any news on where they will go? The layout isn't particularly well set up for them without either needing multiple sets or taking a big chunk of the concourse out.

I wonder whether all platforms will be barriered. It's a Direct Award requirement for Virgin to install barriers but do they have to install them at all platforms even the ones West Coast services don't call at?

Stockport is also included in the requirement to install barriers - platform 0 would be difficult to add barriers to but then Virgin never stop there.

Install them along the glass screens so will only need to barrier the gates there and still retain flexibility "train-side" to move about between the platforms.

Might be difficult to cover platforms 10-14 though without either moving the escalators to/from the Metrolink platforms or causing a massive bottleneck.

Can't be that different to the manual barrier atm surely.

Alternatively do it as a sort of "alcove" shape.
