Hello,

I will use both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports in February. While I can see a fare from Glasgow to Glasgow Airport (£3.40 single, train+bus), I can't find any similar ticket from Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh. Do they exist at all?

I'm flying into Edinburgh but going straight to Glasgow. Would you recommend bus to Waverley/Haymarket then train, or direct coach from airport to Glasgow?

Thanks a lot for helping

I'd imagine coach will be more convenient, and without a half hour plus journey into Waverley quite possibly quicker as well, and almost certainly cheaper.

There's no rail fares for Edinburgh Airport, as they cancelled the rail link to it a few years ago. I could be wrong, but I don't believe they have ever had any rail-bus or rail-tram integrated fares for it. Tram from the airport to Edinburgh Park or Haymarket is probably easiest for rail connections (Edinburgh Park is a minor station, Haymarket is major, so depends which train service you want). Waverley is the biggest rail station and main rail terminus, but slightly less convenient for the tram (not by much though).

Edit: If time isn't important, go to Waverley and you get to see Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town World Heritage Site towering above it, if that appeals. Edinburgh Park is boring modern office blocks, Haymarket is just outer city centre, not all that remarkable. Even Waverley Station is historic and a little bit famous (The 39 Steps, for example).

I have found this site: http://www.scotrail.co.uk/content/single-railbus-add-ons It suggests there is a Edinburgh Airport-Edinburgh 'RailBus add-on' at £3.00, in addition to the normal fare from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Has this been discontinued?

If it's on that site, it's official. I wasn't aware ScotRail offered that add on. ScotRail is the national rail operator of Scotland, that's their official site.

The bus/tram add-on for Edinburgh Airport seems to be £4 single/£7 return.

Indeed you are wrong. :) There is a combined Bus/Tram+Train fare, however you can only purchase it at the station or from the TVM at the airport.

Fares are available via Edinburgh or via Inverkething and the fares are a £4.50 or £7.50 addition to the return rail fare.

Edit: I see that Panceltic beat me to it.

Fares can be found here.

The tram runs every 10 minutes to Edinburgh Park [EDP] to connect there for four direct (2x fast & 2x slow) and two indirect (a further change at Linlithgow [LIN]) services to Glasgow [GLQ] per hour.

You can double back via Haymarket [HYM] if you wish, there are six services from EDP to HYM. The tram and the service 100 bus also continue to HYM.

At HYM per hour you have four fast services via Falkirk [FKK]; two fast & two slow via Bathgate [BHG]; one fast & one slow via Shotts [SHS]; and roughly an hourly service via Carstairs [CRS] slow, semi-fast, or fast depending on time and operator.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My preferred option would be tram to EDP followed by either a fast direct service (Milngavie [MLN]) to GLQ or take the Dunblane [DBL] service and change at LIN for the GLQ express.

Thanks for the link. I didn't find it on Brfares because I kept typing in Edinburgh and not EDB APT

I have now already booked the coach, but will note this ticket for future visits.

About the price, Brfares suggests £5.00 add-on to the normal price, Scotrail site says £3.00, bb21 mentions £4.00 single and £7.00 return while najaB has £4.50 return (also on the Scotrail site). What is true? :D

Back in July I bought an Airport to Dundee Anytime Day Single (via Haymarket) for £21.40 - if anyone has access to historical prices we can figure out which is correct.

You mean £21.30?

Haymarket - Dundee was £17.30 SDS.
