Anyone who doubts my view that Leeds station has a litter problem should see platform 5 at the moment!

All local commuters since this platform serves Yorkshire towns.

Maybe there's a reason we get shabby trains up here. Would new trains be looked after? I doubt it.

Again, if they provided decent bins, people would use them! I've said it earlier on this thread: I abhor littering, but when there's no bins on the station and the bins on the train either don't exist or are crammed, you aren't left with much choice.

Alex, half of this wasn't litter on seats, ledges, etc, it was litter that had clearly been casually thrown whilst walking down to the platform. A McDonald's paper bag, followed by a burger wrapper, followed by a McDonald's cup.

No excuse for that, and in Leeds, I'm not even totally convinced bins would have much of an impact.

My fellow, so called proud Yorkshiremen are that proud of "God's Own Country" (yawn, yawn), this is how they treat it.

Talking of Leeds station why are the announcements in the main concourse so LOUD at 10pm?!

I can understand it in a morning when there are thousands of people but it's deafening in the much quieter later evening period!

You think that's loud? Try the automated announcements at Huddersfield and several other West Yorkshire bus stations. I know they have to be reasonably loud, but those are so loud they probably create more partially deaf people than they help!

Stops people loitering.

As for the litter, you'll always have people who drop wherever they go. The mouth-breathers in cheap tracksuits in Bradford are horrendous for it (good old Buttershaw). But then again I've left litter on the platforms at Leeds (neatly in a corner, but still) because there ain't anywhere else to put it.

The thing is, after years of being told to "just put it somewhere out of the way", "just put it on a seat/ledge/etc", or similar by staff, it invites even people who would not normally casually litter to do so (the psychology being that NR don't care, so why should we care). That goes double if they are slow to clear up litter, as people seeing lots of litter will be more inclined to join in.

Retail sales and no bins is just asking for a litter problem. It's unreasonable to ask people to take food waste with them when food is being sold for consumption on the premises.

BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING MADE BY A YORKSHIREMAN!

(probably works better if you read that in Geoffrey Boycott's voice ;))

We were thinking of visiting Yorkshire this year and you have just put us off! You've got that Titchmarsh bloke up there as well, I suppose.:(

What impression of Britain would foreign tourists get. Still they have bins on stations in other countries.

Leeds station was the same tonight, and god knows what visitors must think. Mind you, it's no better outside. Yorkshire is full of self congratulating, inward looking, overly proud, and quite frankly slobby people. Not everyone obviously, but a large element.

I can just picture someone from this region showing a visitor around. "Nar then lad, you're in Yorkshire nar. It's t' best county in t' country, we're t' best at everything, and if it's not from Yorkshire it's not worth having. Look around you at t' beautiful scenery", (as he drops an empty can of John Smith's to the ground).

I've emailed Network Rail about Leeds station anyway.
