FGW have lifted all restrictions regarding peak tickets and use of railcards for this coming week, I've confirmed that by Tweeting them twice.
Tomorrow I want to buy an off-peak return Worcester to Colchester using my Network Railcard. Usually I can't do this until 10am, but tomorrow, there are no restrictions, FGW say, so I want to leave at 6am.
Staff at London Midland-operated Worcester Shrub Hill won't sell me the ticket I want at the early time I want to travel, thinking the usual restrictions regarding railcards still apply.
I'm not prepared to do the trip if I can't leave at 6am, or have the railcard discount. I doubt the ticket machine would sell me what I want as well.
The problem is my station, although having fairly regular FGW services, it's operated by London Midland staff.
Should I just board the train at 6am and buy the ticket off the FGW guard on the train to London? (I'd ask the guard if it's ok before I stepped on the train, in case I get a Penalty Fare)
Or, what does anybody else suggest?
