Ticket Acceptance and Delay Causes

I wanted to find out/discuss if ticket acceptance between TOCs ever happens if there is a "TOC-related" fault? Like a staff shortage or train fault?

I ask as twice I've had the same train cancelled on long journeys for two reasons, a major signalling problem at Reading and other a staff shortage severely affecting services. For the signalling problem I was allowed to take a very different route to my advanced ticket with two other companies, yet for the staff shortage I was given a very short "no" and given either a lengthy diversion or a dragging replacement bus service. I feel like the Franchise system can really harm the passengers experience in these cases.

It will most likely depend on the severity. In the opposite case, Southern have had no drivers for the services from Clapham Junction to Milton Keynes Central and have arrranged ticket acceptance with London Midland, LOROL and London Underground. Tomorrow it is not running due to engineering work and passengers are being told to go to Kensington Olympia and take TfL buses!

Really? Cross-acceptance is usually arranged on that route for any disruption of any kind, including a single cancellation. Perhaps being Christmas Eve LM are too concerned about capacity to allow it.

Don't think it's anything to do with LM, more Southern. Couldn't find a trace of ticket acceptance for tomorrow mentioned anywhere!

It'll be the same as on other days of engineering works, i.e. the same as today - use SN to Victoria then the Victoria Line, then LM or whatever LM are providing as a substitute. Or LO if you prefer (which because the tickets are generally routed Kenny O, not Southern Only, will be valid anyway unless you go the really long way round!)

Bad that it isn't explicitly stated, though.

Considering the customer was already swearing about the lack of drivers today and yesterday, I didn't want to tell him that then he comes back for me tomorrow after LUL say otherwise with his 2-6 travelcard! I didn't want to give the guy false hope...
