Barbed Wire spotting / collecting - bits of WW1 wire can be seen, not just in France, but at the various UK sites used for trench practice....

Brick spotting: almost every colliery town had a brickworks alongside the pit, turning otherwise waste clay into bricks, usually stamped with the name of the village/brickworks....

Window spotting: architecture fans often look at the windows first, because they tell you much about the date of a building (can you tell a Saxon from a Norman window in a church tower?).

Milk bottle spotting: different names embossed into the glass.....

Plant spotting (surprised that one hasn't come up earlier...)

Voice over spotting: I used to be able to tell you who voiced what in radio commercials (back when there were only five commercial radio stations in the UK...)

..... I suppose you can spot any genre of object, providing there are enough distinctive differences to differentiate between types / manufacturers / materials....

Hear, hear! the general public is so ignorant, but it is mostly because spotters are the most visible (coverage-freaks like me tend to look a bit more like normal people). I can't see myself enjoying spotting, TBH. It requires too much patience that I don't have!

lol I just think the numbers are the least interesting (to me anyway) in fact I have a terrible memory for numbers, so when people talk about something referring to a number, it's kinda embarrassing not to know what on earth they are taking about.

Yes, there are both, check SABRE... http://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/

Dis-mountable Rack Offload and Pickup System
Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications
Common Weapon Sight

There are hundreds of these acronyms I'm not going through all of them, most of them are official as well ;)

ahhhhh, never did any balistics so I wouldn't have known them ;)

I did Radios, Wagons and Drums ;)

And a lot of work on the SA80, *Spits on the floor for the A1*

H&K make the A2 so I like that one, would still have rather had a G36 or HK53 though :)

Gun Spotting?

I had an CAR15 factory matched (Yes M4 or shortened M16A2), sweet weapon. Shame it was singleshot only. 30 round 5.56 mags with optics sight made a great range weapon. Had to sell it and revoke my firearms license when I moved house.....Apparently this house is not secure enough for a gun cabinet!!

As for SA80 A1's.............utter crap yeah. We had them in cadets, well we had the weapons that the para's refused to use as they went back to their SLR's. Bullpups suck in general anyway, except for steyer AG thingy's (SP?).

Styr AUG...

Thats crap too realy...

I could have modified that CAR15 for you if you wanted ;) lol

It's built fundimentaly diferently, but the tigger mech is the same, so you'd only get 4 - 500rpm and a hell of a lot of overheating, but you can sort that with a new foregard from an M4 ;). and re-machining the gas parts. lol

We only ever had GPs (L98a1)s in cadets, the're even more ****e ;) lol

Modified by pepole who've never seen a range, lol. Them damned slides never fit properly so always jamed!

Could never get a licence for somthing like that nowerdays anyway... :'( unless I go buy a farm...

Why do I get the impression that there are a lot of Firearms Spotters on this forum?:lol:;)

As for I: I could be considered to be many of the following...
"Sad-git" spotting list:
  • Train spotter,
  • High-speed train spotter,
  • VERY high speed train spotter,
  • Maglev spotter,
  • Tram spotter,
  • Light-rail spotter,
  • Underground spotter,
  • Suburban rail spotter,
  • Transit system spotter,
  • Bus spotter,
  • Coach spotter,
  • Large/heavy ship spotter,
  • Large/heavy aircraft spotter,
  • Structural engineering spotter,
  • Mechanical engineering spotter.
And the more interesting stuff... <D
  • Rollercoaster spotter,
  • Thrill-ride spotter,
  • Extreme sport spotter,
  • Extreme speed spotter,
  • Extreme engineering spotter,
  • Viking re-enactment spotter,
  • Mediaeval re-enactment spotter,
  • Heavy Metal spotter,
  • Black Metal spotter,
  • Death Metal spotter,
  • Speed Metal spotter,
  • Thrash Metal spotter
Although I'd generally replace the word "spotter" in all of the above examples with "enthusiast" whenever mentioning them!:D<D

To be honest, I think the idea of referring to people as "[Whatever] spotters" is pretty pointless as it's really just another way of saying "enthusiast", in my opinion. Otherwise, we'd have car spotters, mod spotters, bike spotters, football spotters and what have ye. The Police force would all become both crime spotters and chav spotters overnight, and the word "spotter" would become subject to severe overuse!

Strictly speaking, everyone is an enthusiast about something...As surely having no interests or hobbies would lead to a very boring and empty life, wouldn't it?

Although I did once see some real train-"spotters" several years ago whilst walking past an LuL maintenance yard...It was a group of teenage kids spraying polka-dot graffitti onto the side of a District Line carriage...:D<D

Farewell... <D

Firing weapons are awesome.

Walther P99 (.40SW)
Glock 17
Remington 870 pump action
Mossberg shorty pump action
Colt 635 9mm (M16-variant)
H&K MP5A2

Going back to Florida.. hopefully get to try out a few more weaps, possibly organising a day with the National Guard ;)
