According to the Hastings 'newspaper' the new Thameslink franchise could see trains between the Docklands and Hastings with a journey time of 60 mins:

The East Sussex Railway Alliance (ESRA) attended the launch of the Govia Thameslink GTR Rail Franchise on Monday September 15.

The new franchise could see trains from the Docklands to Hastings take just 60 minutes with another service from London Kings Cross and St Pancras to Hastings via Ashford taking just 68 minutes.

It covers the Thameslink and Southern services into Sussex and co-founder of ESRA, Ray Chapman hailed the event as the start of “one of the most exciting eras for rail ever.”
The event was attended by Rail Minister Claire Perry and senior management across the rail sector.

The Thameslink service covers the Ashford to Brighton route stopping at Hastings and St Leonards and part of the new plans are to introduce electrification, widening of the lines at key London stations and resignalling.....

I suspect this is a confused journalist. There is an IDEA of possibly having a service from St Pancras to Hastings via HS1 and Ashford. This would need electrification between Ashford and Ore.

St Pancras being on Thameslink and it being a new franchise is probably enough to confuse the poor soul.

I'm trying to work out the level of journalism on Rail magazine, because what appears in there is an increasing level of fiction.

Most local rags don't have any journos, most are written and edited remotely with possibly one or two freelancers on the ground.

Here are a few examples of great local journalists at work on another story!

Milton Keynes Pub in Good Beer Guide

Kent Pub In Good Beer Guide

Barking Pub in Good Beer Guide

Bournemouth Pub in Good Beer Guide

and the list goes on. Just Google "if a licensee serves an excellent pint of real ale"

and here's one from last year:

Good to see the Hastings Observer maintaining its high standards. There was a story a few years back on service reliability on the Hastings line, which managed to confuse Charing Cross with Euston.

It is rather like the railway version of Razzle. Lots of pretty pictures with plenty of stories passed off as fact.

Are you saying it's produced by a bunch of 717s?

I suspect for Docklands you should read Stratford International, but it's all out there in EastEnders territory, innit? Oh, no, that's Borehamstiff or somewhere.

Or the classic- 'earthquake in Sumatra which claimed 500 lives delays Chipping Sodbury man's return home' which I swear I saw (or words to that effect- it may have been Yate) in the Evening Post when I lived in Bristol.

Most local newspapers now are recyclers of press releases and 'copy' about restaurants which are thinly-disguised adverts, to the extent of sometimes saying 'we' when they should say 'they'.

Actually, Barking pub in Good Beer Guide WOULD be news!

Looking at the quoted info in the first post, the last paragraph has described the 'Marshlink' line hasn't it? Either an extraordinarily unlucky typo, or wishful thinking.

When this was discussed in a thread recently, the idea of running a high speed service to Hastings via Ashford had nothing to do with Thameslink at all, it was proposed to be an extension of the Southeastern HS Javelin route network.

All in all a pretty hopeless attempt at reporting what's actually been discussed...

You don't need to go anywhere near Google to re-print a JD Wetherspoon press release!

Local newspapers have very few staff, and the staffing levels are getting smaller. That's why so many of them are now either illiterate reports of the Mothers' Union meetings, advertorials for Ken Sleaze's Used Car Supermarket, or reprinted press releases from the local pubco or shopping centre.

My local paper seem to source most of their news from Twitter these days.

Everything in the article is just completely wrong! Thameslink services from the core aren't, and never have been planned to go to Hastings. I think the furthest that way they've ever been proposed going is Eastbourne. And in 60 minutes?! They take 40mins to Haywards Heath, and then it takes about an hour from Haywards Heath to Hastings! The writer should be sacked.
