I applied the other day but at the end of the application form I was never asked to complete a test, I had put down early into the application that I have passed all of the train driver selection process except the dm interview will this be why? I did get a "thanks for applying" at the end regardless. Just don't want to have blown it if there was some sort of test :/

No, that's the 'test'. Part 8 if I remember rightly.

I suspect that ideal candidates with 100% pass rate on the application test are more likely to be called forward than ideal candidates that score lower.
Similarly, I doubt getting 100% will help you if your application suggests you are unsuitable anyway.

Looks like its just sit and wait then. The same application got me through with a TOC and I mentioned I had passed stage one of train driver assessment. Just wasnt "randomly selected" to take part in stage two. Really frustrating but hey ho.

Does anybody know if they will ever run this scheme and involve Earles sidings (Hope) in it? The last 2 havnt. Are they fully manned there?

Just out of intrest... How many times to people apply to these jobs to be a trainee driver. This one currently with FR is my 4th though my 1st suppose i cant count as i had to cancel my aplication.
Just time is getting short now and ill have to look else where for a job.
Also i saw in other posts that youll need 100% on that test at the end of FR aplication before they look at the rest. Freightline HR if you see this can you confirm this to be true? Because i know i got 1 wrong.

That's just someone's guess, Aaron...doesn't mean he's right.

This is my 4th application. I got through the manager interview and assessments but failed the CBI on my first. Got through the sift for 2nd and was given an assessment day but then the job at my depot was withdrawn / filled internally. 3rd i was given an assessment day but couldn't make it and wasn't given an alternative date / none available.

In all of the above applications i had doubts about the online tests i'd done or the informaton i provided, only human! The hardest part is being patient between the different stages as it all happens slowly

For me this is the fifth attempt via four different companies over the last year. I applied for Virgin Train Manager as a way in and got to their interview & assessment day (one of 200 from 7,000 applications), I have applied to Northern twice and First TPE for trainee driver and got part way down the application process each time. It is so competitive that you can do very little wrong and keep putting in good applications and still not get in.

No wonder all my pals back in Army laughed at me when i said i wanted to be a freight train driver sounds like they knew what it would be like.
As for the test it dose make sence to sift through the aplications by score. I do hope not!

Q number 8 I guess I submitted an application, then I realized I wrote wrong answer for Q8 I always wanted to apply for this position, now I can see how many applicants are interested. I think, if you did wrong any answer, you have no chance to go forward. I wish I have no right!!! We can wait only to find it out! Good luck to all of you!

I was lucky enough to get through the last round of recruitment with intermodal, and start on Tuesday, and we heard that they had somewhere around 1600 applications for around 10-12 jobs over all of the depots. Don't get too disheartened by it all, and don't put all of your eggs in one basket. My best advice is that if you have your heart set on the railway, but don't get a driving job straight away, consider one of the many other roles as a foot in the door!

Wow just like that? I might just send a few CVs out and about.
Well i did have a go at going to a signals maint operative for network rail but they pulled the job and moved it to london, but im pretty stuck in doncaster and a hours drive around so leeds lincoln nottingham are in a hours drive (at the speed limit) haha but yeah i do look at terminal labour teams and multi skilled operatives too but nowhere close to me.

Thanks for the advice also how long ago did that job opeing advertise, just need a idea on length of process.

Apps for Intermodal closed on Dec 10, consider yourself lucky I'm in the same round of recruitment only I might not start til next Feb

So sounds like i need to find a "tie me over" job which i can just jack in when or if i get through for freightliner but 6 months is a very ling time and even then i guess its still not a deffinate job because of the tests you go through, be worth it though right?

So what info have you been told like where is training and how long is it.

Its a job area i have no knowledge about so i pick peoples heads haha

I looked on the DB Schenker website at their previous trainee train driver scheme and their preferred previous occupations included firefighter and HGV driver of which I am both... I can only hope Freightliner HH are looking for the same!!

I wouldn't say I'm on edge about it, probably because I do realise I haven't a cat in hells chance of actually getting this job realistically, but in the unlikely event I do progress further it will be a pleasant surprise

you can never doubt yourself, they train you remember.

But yeah id say tomorrow onwards people will be getting emails. I did try to relate as much as possible from army talk to civvie talk haha even liked FR and the other freight company's like to regiments in the army haha meh worth a shot.
