Just wanted to add something about the working in supermarkets etc...

I work for a call centre in the City (not a million miles from the guys at Trafficlink) and I have recruited people for telesales and customer service agents for the last few years.

So many people get rejected because they simply have no customer expereince. The odd one or two are bright, inteligent and able to speak more than 4 words without grunting ... But because they've no expereince of being put under pressure by customers, they don't get passed the first interview.

Supermarkets are great training grounds. You get used to the sweet old granny that turns into the thing from Alien when her bottle of milk goes crashing off the checkout onto the floor. It seems really bizzare training for someone that wants to work on the railway, but being able to deal with the irate customers, customers who are drunk etc are exactly the kind of people you will get at any railway station.

I would agree with the previous posts - staying at college is the best option. can you not get a course transfer to something you'd rather be doing ?

From what I've seen of your posts, Giz, you are well liked and respected on here and I'm sure there are people who would be willing to help you with your course as much as they can to get you over the worst of it.

Hope this helps

Bah this is long enough to be a WTFan post.

"Bollocks...Absolute bollocks" is the reading from my Bull****ting Detector.

If nothing else, your post was longer than 80% of my postings on this forum! So worse than my average post!:p

*Points and laughs*

On a serious note, some of what you said were good points.

Gizmogle, if you reckon you'll get booted out of college then perhaps it is wise to quit whilst you're ahead. Getting booted out will look worse than quitting. Perhaps it would be wise to get some experience of the world of work. Don't expect to get anything too good straight away though. Working in a supermarket is good to start off though. Even if it's only part-time, at least you'll be able to afford to go off on meets using your own money. It'll feel so much better to have earned your money to buy your tickets to the meets. At least that's the way I feel when I've worked hard all week and go off on a bash.

If you make any mistakes, then have the 'boo-hoo' attitude to it. Everyone makes mistakes. Some more than others. I do however regret not working hard through my education. I'm stuck in working-class jobs for all eternity now, something I may have avoided if I had worked harder. But who knows? I will never know if my rail enthusiasm had developed at all if I had done the railway course at Sheffield Hallam University. Indeed, it may have died off with my facing more mistakes and regrets. Treat any mistake as a learning curve.

Hope you make a good decision Gizmogle.

I spoke to one of my teachers about it yesterday, and she was a big bucket of sympathy :)
She kept saying that I should stay on the course, but once she finally got my reasons out of me, she understood more.
There were a few things she suggested, including doing a "diluted" version of the course, with less units and less work all over.
But yeah, I've gotta go speak to some woman about it all on Monday (hurrah... :???:)

Well it would be wise to at least see out this appointment to speak to this lady on Monday. If you don't mind my asking, what is the course you're doing?

That's a two year course, so dropping out is still realistic. (You're in your first year?)

I am in my first year still, yes.

Just found out that I can enroll and take courses for free at my current college until I'm 19.

I'm seeing someone about it tomorrow anyway, so I'll see what they have to say.
