Well people I have tried so hard again not to comment but after reading all of yours I have given in. However I have just got off the phone to hr and they have stated because there have been a few hundred completing the assessments there has been a delay and with trying to get our certificates back from the assessors. Also they want to look to place us on a course in the next 6 months they are just waiting to see where the gaps are and sort out enough assessors to train us. We should be hearing something soon

I take my hat off to hr, they have had drivers, conductors, depot drivers and any other vacancies to sort out from interview to final assessments, takes some doing does that, it's not a case of " sending a simple email" lot goes into it, now they have to plan and organise the training sessions , along with the day-day running of hr... We will get there in the end I have no doubt :D

Cheers guys. I think looking at the bourdon sheet after I'd done it and realising I'd missed two, that I could see unnerved me. Then remembering the passage, not overly confident on some of my answers but think I did okay. Wow the dials certainly threw me a bit, I got into the swing of it but only managed about 24 ? Obviously I don't know how they Mark it but 24 didn't seem enough. All said and done counting the beeps was really easy, the assessor did run across the room to shout at someone which a few people found off putting. The guy next to me lost his concentration. We also had someone outside during the bourdon, manically beeping his horn for a good while.

I can't use these as an excuse as I didn't find it that off putting.

All said and done it seemed like a really good bunch of people and I wish luck to them all

That bloody horn put me off a little, think I did OK though. Getting a little frustrated with waiting for the results!

Patience is a virtue.

I applied for conductor role last April and am still waiting for a position to become available, big year for recruitment so hang in there.

Good things come to those who wait.

Yes

HR called me recently just to say keep hanging in there, we haven't forgot about you. Looking like a good few months before a course will come up but I'll keep waiting. I thought that was excellent just for them to call and reassure really.

Everybody who has phoned has been told something different

They use a 'random answer generator'.

To be fair they are probably rushed of their feet at the moment so trying to answer the variety of phone and email queries they must receive everyday, from people at various points in the recruitment process and for various roles at various locations, it must be a nightmare.

got to say that has got to be the best reply I have ever read!

Just got an image of a phone with a machine next to it. Which has a big button and a display.

When the phone rings and its another nail biting, email checking, no patience left applicant on the other end the button gets pushed and just like the lottery you get a result on the screen! Classic!

I rang up yesterday because I have an option for work coming up and I didn't want to commit if it was going to clash with a course. HR were very helpful saying that they aim to give a months notice of a course starting.

I was told that there is currently no requirement for drivers at the Wigan depot. Patience, patience, patience!

So why advertise and rush us through

They are behaving like a hgv recruitment agency

All seems bit strange! If there no requirements why advertise? And say they needed 4 people at Wigan?

I think they know that the positions will be needed at some point this year but nothing is set in stone. Now they know that they have the people to fill the positions as and when they come up.

We'd all obviously like to be on a course now but I can wait, this is hopefully my last job move.

Thing is guys, although through application everyone is equal, once in the pool, internal candidates get priority. Hang in there, this time next year you'll be there; )

I tend to disagree with that, if that were true they would be training a hell of a lot of guards right now, think it goes off scores ( I know there's no bench mark) but northern will have their own to decide on courses etc

I think it might just be hold ups as taking on 100 new drivers in a year is a lot of effort and planning! :) what will be will be

From the horses mouth, as it were. Although, in the same conversation, DM's decision about who they want was also mentioned. Also, 'priority' is a loose term, easily mis-interpreted. It could mean that they are looked at before external candidates as a whole, or as I suspect, will be given priority over an equally matched external candidate. I suppose the reality is that we are just purely speculating, putting two and two together and coming up with 7. Knitting fog as my Mother in law says lol. A combination of excitement, anticipation and eagerness.
