"Yes, that cheese is strong - like all cheese. Well like all of the other cheese that is also strong..." ;)

"... as opposed to the 455s and 458s."

I am being slaughtered mercilessly. :(

Just reading this thread and have realised that I haven't posted about the first time I knowingly met another forum member.

I had posted on Searle's thread when he was planning on doing a Northern Rover on the 12th October. I was going to the University of Liverpool's open day and was due to be travelling from Sheffield to Retford on the same train he was planning to catch. I had told him this on the thread linked above so we were looking out for each other.

Anyway, in Liverpool, I was queuing up to catch the 16:52 East Midlands Trains service back to Sheffield with my parents and sister when I said that the trains was formed of two Class 158's this time, not a 158 and a 156 like we had on the way. Someone suddenly come up to me and asked me if I was ryan125hst, so I said yes! It was all a bit quick, especially as the train was now starting to board and I couldn't hear the member very well over the noise of all the trains in the station.

The member was ATWalex101. I didn't realise who he was at first. It was only once I got on the train that it clicked! It was a pleasant surprise and was brave of Alex to ask me- can you imagine how awkward it would have been if it wasn't me! he had been on the same train between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street, so having also read Searle's thread, decided to wait on the platform and see if he could see me.

I never did see Searle though. Maybe next time! :)

I once bumped into IanPooleTrains on a SVR Steam Gala weekend not too long after he'd slagged me off on YouTube. He wasn't quite so brave face to face! I found it rather amusing to see him squirm, especially as the train was packed and there was no where for him to go!

I sometimes get the urge to stand up in a carriage and say "ANYONE HERE ON THE RAILUK FORUMS?!"

Thankfully I've resisted the urge so far.

The downside being I haven't (knowingly) met any of you

There are occasions I've felt like doing the same - though sometimes it's given away by the open rail atlas, spotting log book, or general conversation. I've most likely been on the same train as a lot of people here unknowingly!

That might not work with me as I'm cloth eared, but then again anyone should recognise me anyway as I've got my picture on the left of each post I make - even if it is a picture dating from 2002...

I too have often wondered if I've secretly got RailUK members on the same train as me, although at the same time I wonder which forum members would be, say, the 0940 Hereford to Birmingham New Street or 1919 Birmingham New Street to Hereford! I probably have been on the same train as someone else from here many times, just in another coach or whatever!

I'm the same as Peter Mugridge, no-one has an excuse for not recognising me since my mug is in my avatar and next to each and every post I make. Has been for several years now and I have no intention of changing it whatsoever!

It is rather amusing how many members have seen him, if not met him, while out and about! Oddly, I have not seen him since a meet we both attended nearly 3 years ago, despite being semi-regularly out and about round the country.

Well we've certainly crossed paths at some point. Although I usually shuttle between Droitwich-Worcester on my commute to school, I occasionally pay visit to Brum; last time I caught the 1033 (ex 0940) to New Street. We may have sat only a few rows away from each other; I do remember the service was heaving when I got on.

He has a message for you

 I should be reporting you for inappropriate content (i.e nudidity)

In all seriousness though, IP is not a bad bloke himself to me, but I can see why not many get on with him and why people generally have a downer on him. I have seen him a few times vegging on platforms and also at Chester once as well when the RHTT's were out.

Sorry, this was supposed to be in reply with a quote to Class172:

I only catch those trains in particular during a WMDR bash, so normally on a Monday as I work Tuesday to Saturday :( Still, yes it probably has been the case that we've been on the same train once before. Indeed, when I came through Droitwich on Monday I did wonder if you were about!

The 0940 is normally heaving as it's normally 2 coaches. The 0849 from HFD is also normally pretty busy from the start, after Worcester it's also the first off-peak train of the day so gets rammed!

Having met you several times in reality, I've also seen you off in the distance sat on a bench at Preston absorbed in your music while I was on me way to Leeds :)

I've seen plenty of people about and was photted by Paul Bigland in addition while going about my duties :p

Ah that may have been on my way home from the Isle of Man trip, about the only time I can remember being sat on a bench at Preston!

I've often wondered whether I've seen one of you lot, whether at the end of London Bridge or shuffling down to Platform 2A at Milton Keynes Central, or that one person in the vestibule of a HST.

Maybe I'll come to one of the dinners if I ever develop a crippling bout of confidence. :p

Wonder if they were the same lot at the Northam depot open day last year who kept forcing open all the doors and effing and blinding down the PA systems on the Desiros. Absolute pillocks to say the very least.

If you were on a train passing Maidenhead's football ground yesterday between 2.30 & 5.00 then you would have seen me :)

Went to Crewe today to scratch off the Middlewich diversion and had a bit of time in Crewe. Took a picture of a 158 leaving towards Chester, turned around and Class 92 was there! Pleasant surprise!

Bumped into RJ on a bus very recently. In fact, sat next to him.

However we were both in our own little worlds listening to our own sounds and I only spotted him as I was getting up to leave.

Today I saw theblackwatch on the platforms at Leeds (OK not that unexpected, as he was awaiting a railtour, but I didn't know that, so it still counts!) and fishquinn on the platforms at Manchester Piccadilly. Admittedly I don't know 100% sure it was him, but there can't be many people of his description who went to Manchester today and would have been platform-ending/vegging. And 96tommy at a football game. None of them saw me though!
