Hi I was wondering if we could get a list together of which TOC's allow free travel on their services to attend interviews with themselves. I have done various assessments/interviews with 3 different TOC's & of those Southern did offer free travel, FGW did not mention it but as my journey did not include travel on one of their services it didn't matter.

Does anyone know if SouthEastern allow free travel on their network? I have an assessment coming up & in this case will use one of their services to get there. The fare is only a tenner so I am not that bothered in my case but for those travelling from further afield the cost could be significant at peak times.

Must depend on the manager arranging the assessment. For Conductor interviews at Chester, candidates received nothing. The person running those interviews was Jacquie from HR in Cardiff.

I had to get my own ticket from Plymouth to Bristol for a assessment with FGW, but cashier did say I should ask about it.

TPE do on their services.

However I would say if you get to the interview stage and are concerned about having to pay travel costs to attend then you are going in with the wrong mentality to start with.

Agree, but from an HR perspective, if you are the rail company operating the local service, you would feel pretty stupid expecting candidates to have to pay your company to get to the interview.

It is something that has been there since BR days, basic common sense; slowly being eroded by people entering management from outside the industry.

Not sure about that one, they don't have to use the train if they don't want to and the TOC isn't making them.

If I was going for an interview with BP I wouldn't expect them to send me petrol vouchers to get there.

It's a long time since I last went for a job interview, but paying travel expenses was the normal thing.
