Good silly o clock to you all

Let's not go into why specifically what's got to me, but I'm in a well weird mood lately. Is this happening to anyone else? Everything and almost everyone is getting on my nerves lately, especially in the last 12 hours. Seems strange how it's suddenly come from somewhere, this time last week everything was brilliant!

Guess it doesn't help it's this time of year really. I dunno, it's just strange.

Anyone else suffering with weird moods in recent times? Surely I'm not the only one?

Little things have been annoying me too that wouldn't normally. Possibly just this time of the year and the cold.

I've read before where research has been done on this. It seems to be related to the approach to the shortest day on December 21st, with the lack of daylight hours and the body coming to terms with colder temperatures.

It is dark and cold all the time. That normally works to put me in a bad mood.

I'm lucky that I never get grumpy or irrationally irritated at this time of year.

BTW, Isn't it infuriating when people refer to cold or hot temperatures?
Temperatures, being a number, can't be described as hot or cold! How can anyone be so illogical?

I was OK earlier, nice and cheery and got lots of stuff done around the house. Now since tea I've spiralled back to being miserable.

I'd agree the weather is not helping at the moment. Frigging hate winter!

You're not the only one. Saying that, I think the colder weather makes for more impressive smoke effects from steam engines- Union of South Africa looked fantastic on the ECML on Saturday! I saw it from a distance and saw the smoke from shortly after Grove Crossing (Retford) to what must have been Markham Moor, maybe Tuxford (half way to Newark). Not bad for a view outside my parent's en-suite window! :D

Which in turn is a measure of velocity :D:D:D

I am glad it's around the freezing point of water at sea level though, I feel the heat terribly :(

Stay away from Hong Kong then. People talk about tropical breezes, if you are there in typhoon season it is more like someone pointing a hair dryer at you in a sauna.

I hasten to add I absolutely loved it there.

I try to be reasonably calm and collected, especially in my postings on RailUK now, but I too felt "the red mist" descend when making a posting about an event on platform 9 at Manchester Piccadilly station last week...

I hate it when it's already dark when I finish work and I'm doing an early shift.
On the bus stop in the morning just as the sun's coming up and getting home in the dark too.

I actually like the cooler temperatures, it's when the mercury hits 30 that I start to suffer.

Hmmm, if I was feeling a bit fed up I think I would go for a run and really push myself rather than feeling sorry for myself on a forum. Physical exercise gives you a buzz and makes you feel better about yourself.

As for this time of year, yes the days are getting shorter (but not for much longer) but at least we have Christmas to look forward to. January is far worse; everyone is skint, Christmas is long gone and its flippin freezing!

It was a decision I made at the time, not necessarily the right one but hey. As it is, I've cheered up somewhat since this thread started, been a lot going through my head lately but most of it I'm dealing with slowly. Lots to do, lots of decisions made but on the bright side I'm sticking with the railway hobby for now.

As for going for a run, I'm way too unfit for that! However your point is most valid, I do a lot of grafting thus physical exercise at work which is enough for me. That and I do walk fast even when not needing to, so I get a fair amount of cardio exercise during the average week.

Well aye, even I've managed to find my Christmas spirit from somewhere lately, getting Christmas shopping done and even wearing a Christmas jumper  Good point regarding January, and December 5th is coming. T'was my favourite day of 2012 so looking forward to that bit of nostalgia :D<D

Keep your chin up mate. I struggle at this time of year. You can't be worse than me. I started a thread having a right moan about something and I was completely wrong. Ah well. Ha ha.

Oh I've been there done that years ago, no doubt plenty of us have!

I don't like winter as it is for the cold, the short hours of daylight really make it worse. I think what really peeved me off when I first started this thread was the fact not one of my close friends could be bothered to support me when I needed it, yet they always get support from me whenever they need it. I guess that's the downside to being as nice as pie to everyone all the time!

Call me weird if you will, but I found playing some of My Chemical Romance's songs helped a lot recently, as did Altaria's Will To Live. Conversely, I didn't find Altaria's Angel very helpful at the time but it is good again now :)

I finally had a natter with one of my close friends about all sorts on Friday too, which also helped a bit. So currently I'm back to normal, although I still have a long list of things to do (only managed to do one of them so far) after almost a week of evaluating things! All I'll say for sure is this:

May God have mercy on everyone's souls when I finally re-start the giving up of my biggest vice (after railways!), smoking. Best to stay out of my way

As long as you are alright mate, I can cope with the cold and quite like winter sport but the going dark at 4pm wrecks my head. On top of that the winter is an awkward time of year for me after various events. The old smoking is a pain in the backside when you are a smoker/none smoker.

Tell me about it with the 4pm darkness thing, so awful. Know the feeling with events causing a dislike for certain times, February 15th 2013 will no doubt always live on as a dark, dark day for me.

Roll on summer when I can get up at 0600 and it's lovely and sunny, go out for the day on the rails and cruise along home on the train with it being daylight and still light for my bus home.

Yeah I'll survive matey, I've been through worse (although this was a top 5 still!) and no doubt will again. Thanks for your replies, they've been useful too :) I wish you the best with dealing with this winter, let's hope it does what most of 2013 did and fly by!
