Door open buttons when alighting

That would be the ex 508 coach in the 455/7s, you know the ones with the signs that says "press and hold button to open door".

I cant see what the problem is, if the button is not lit then pressing it wont open the door, if the button is lit then pressing it will open the door, not exactly rocket science is it! :roll:

These are the people who jab the pedestrian crossing buttons multiple times as they have been told 'it makes the system think there are lots of people there' or 'it is an emergency and you need to cross'

Scotrail 156 doors definitely open when you are holding the button down - I do it quite regularly.

Same with 158s.

I was on SWT travelling Waterloo to Wokingham via Ascot yesterday and encountered a new door announcement (to me anyway).

At every station, after the beeping and flashing buttons, the PA system announced "the door buttons are now activated". This seems a bit over the top to me, especially when most of the time passengers had opened the door before the denouncement started!

its been standard on them from day one and yes it is bloody annoying.

Paris Metro doors can be released when the train has slowed down to a few mph and quite a few people can alight before the train has come to a complete stop. .

Same on RER stock from the similar era. You can happily flip the catch up just before it stops.

On a Pacer it opens when you hold the button down before the doors are released. However, with Pacers the illumination of the internal door controls is very poor plus the controls are well hidden.

The amount of passengers that I have seen looking for the door controls on a 142 must be in the 100's easily. Like everything else on a 142, old, poorly designed and cheap and a nightmare to work when it is Chester Races.

its been standard on them from day one and yes it is bloody annoying.

It was my first time on a 458. I didn't find it annoying, just amusing. However it might have gotten annoying if I had to hear it every day

The thing that annoys me about certain stock is that I like to press the close button (yanno, so the guard gets the pilot light quicker).

On mark 4 coaches and class 153 and 155 DMUs, it isn't possible to press the close button while the hustle alarms are sounding

Well you can still press it if it makes you happy. It just won't do anything.

I take it by the "wrong"end you are referring to the rebuilt #2 end?

If so there is actually more legroom in there than in the as built #1 end.

The 458s are king as far as I'm concerned, yeah the "door buttons are activated" wears a bit thin after a while (though personally I think it's the chaps voice more than the announcement that annoys me) at least passengers can't say they didn't receive enough notice that the doors have been released!
