I read your article with considerable interest, but I cannot believe that it is ever going to be cost competitive - even through life - with hauled stock. The issue is simply that you're designing and building a bespoke bimodal trainset - and an articulated one at that - that would be a completely new vehicle for Britain's railways. Surely the R&D cost will be huge?
Something that may be more feasible is a EDSMU based on the IEP architecture, but even then it will surely be far more expensive that refurbished Mark IIIs, converted Mark IVs or new build Nightstar-lite carriages?
