I am certain that in 1999 the man I worked for was banned for life from using the railways. This is because he had a family rail card which entitled him to travel cheaper if a child was with him. He was travelling with another adult, but no child. When a ticket inspector asked him for his ticket and he produced the family rail card, he told the inspector that his son was in the toilet. The inspector waited for the son to come out, but obviously he didn't as my boss had lied and was not travelling with his young son. I am sure he received a ban (although I don't know how this could be enforced). Has anyone else heard of people being banned for fare dodging? I can't find anything about this anywhere.
