Manic Street Preachers are taking legal action against the English Defence League for using their song 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' to promote an upcoming demonstration in Birmingham.

Ironically, the song - taken from the band's 1998 album 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours' - took its name from an anti-fascist slogan used during the Spanish Civil War and has now been used by the far-right group in a video about one of their demos. The song famously features the lyric: "So if I can shoot rabbits/Then I can shoot fascists".

In perhaps one of the most deliciously ignorant ironies of all-time, the English Defence League has set up a Spanish ex-pat division on Facebook.

EDL English Defence League Northeast Spain Expat division sprang into existence on Thursday afternoon and already has 66 members.

The 'about' section reads: "Supporting the English Defence League from North-East Spain."

We had an off-shoot of this group visit us in Lincoln a few weeks ago to protest about a planned Mosque being built in the south of the city - pure and simple scum, Burberry caps and misspelled neck tattoos all round. Fortunately, the good folk of Lincoln organised an excellent counter demonstration which passed off peacefully and showed these scumbags up for the intolerant morons that they are. Hopefully they won't come back.

The EDL being sued by a Welsh group of musicians for using one of their songs to promote the "defence" of England is really quite funny! It gets even better when you reaslise what the song is about and what came to inspire it. It quickly becomes comedy gold!

Further, the idea of having a branch of people committed to defending England from the sunshine of Spain is also really quite funny. Surely if they loved this country as much as they profess they would be defending it from here rather than an English ghetto in Spain.

And whilst i am sure you think Pat Condell is some kind of sage or guru i think he is a rabidly right wing ranter shouting into the dark making absolutely no impact on anyone but his fellow right wing ranters.

I have listened to many of his diatribes and he makes some valid points, which are then completely lost in a massive wibbling rant.

I just find it strange that you find it strange that Brits living in Spain should still take an interest in whats going on in the UK.

The EDL seems to be opposed to some forms of immigration into England yet it seems fine for their members/supporters to be immigrants in another country!

Furthermore, surely if these people were as patriotic, loved England and wanted to stop the spread of islam in this country as much as they claim why have they left? Why have they deserted in our hour of need?

Ordinary people like many forum members oppose them because we have a head and think for ourselves. You believe what you want to believe, but many people don't think the same way as you do.

Now I'm not saying I agree with everything they say but equally I don't go along with this notion the EDL are all bad and anybody that disagrees with them is all good.

As I said previously if you get the chance to listen to the debate on LBC radio between EDL leader Tommy Robinson and leading muslim Fiyaz Mughal then I suggest that you do so, you'll find it enlightening, they treated each other with mutual respect and a lot of positives came out of it, far better than the head in the sandpit approach.

If they're already retired they don't have to keep coming back, they get the UK pension for life and all the increases
