Heading down to Straford upon Avon in a few weeks for a two week residential course, I've got my tickets booked via work, but was interested in what stock I'd be riding on...

Sheffield - Leamington Spa - Mon 06:01 (XC)
Leamington Spa - Stratford upon Avon - Mon 08:18 (CR)

Stratford upon Avon - Birmingham Moor Street - Fri 14:26 (LM)
Birmingham New Street - Sheffield Fri 16:03 (XC)

Sheffield-Leamington Spa will be a Voyager
Leamington Spa-Stratford is a mixture of three IIRC: 165s, 168s and 172s, but someone local I hope will be able to clarify. I think however 168s would be used for ex-London services only
Stratford-Brum will be a 172
Brum-Sheffield should be a HST

My own knowledge ;) Anything on XC towards Reading etc is a Voyager; Chiltern is anything like I said; Stratford-Brum like the rest of the Snow Hill lines are 172s, though granted there is a 153+172 combination knocking about, and perhaps a 150 too; and I checked bb21's thread in the Allocations forum for XC HST diagrams, anything not on that list is a Voyager.

It is really odd how it shows up as a 158 on those sites, can't work out why it doesn't filter down as 168.

The reference to class 158 is to do with timing, not the actual stock that'll be on the service.

I am fully aware of that...my user name may possibly give that away. What I am saying is that they are timed as 168s not 158s in TPS so unless they are linked to 158s in TOPS or another system then they should show as 168s on the open sites.

Interesting. I am told it is due to "ITPS downstream simplification" :P

Ahh I wasn't aware that 168 had it's own timing set. :)

It's a 153 + 170 combination, one diagram only amongst all the 172s. I think it's done to allow the crews to retain the traction knowledge isn't it?

Chiltern don't time any services as 172 if I recall. Only seen LM and LOROL schedules with specific 172 times.

Which I find odd, as actual 158s can't do 100 mph.

The traction timing code is DMUE, which translates as 158 on these sites, but actually means 158/168/170/171/175 and in some cases 172. 159s have their own special code "DMUX" for some reason, despite being the same as a 158. A 165/0 is DMUN and a 165/1 and 166 are DMUT. All of LO and LM's 172 services are timed as Sprinters (DMUS) AFAICS. Different codes can have more than one speed assigned to them, hence a true 158 service will show up as 90mph top speed.

AFAIK The codes stand for:

DMU - Diesel Multiple Unit (obviously :P )
E - Express as in Express Sprinter
N - Network as in Network Turbo
T - Turbo as in Network Turbo
S - Sprinter
X - God knows :P

Adam :D
