Yes, there is likely to be plenty of Olympians in use on TitP and Open Golf work next month. Remember that the Olympian is still very much alive and kicking north of the Tay, with no plans to withdraw them.

The Arbroath Olys also do the 44 town service and 43 Kirkton service. I also saw a Oly on a 30 arbroath to Brechin via Montrose service not that long ago and I think they also do the forfar, brechin and montrose town services but I am not sure. 16881 and 883 are operational but 884 is not stagecoach, it is owned by taybus as seen here: http://www.taybus.co.uk/olympian954.html

Wasn't there an Oly on the 73 'tayway' route last year to cover for the E400s while they went down to London for the olympics?

Thanks for the info regarding Arbroath and July events that should utilise olys. I assume however, that it will not be possible to travel on board any of the additional workings to Muirfield and Titp unless you have tickets for the events they serve and normal Stagecoach weekly tickets etc will not be valid.

tITP Tickets with travel included are available but Citylink sell just travel only for the event so in theory you could go bash Olies and not go. The cheepest tickets will soon be gone according to them on facebook so book now!

The thought has occured to me that there might be a flaw to doing an oly to the entrance with just a travel only ticket. Namely if you arrive at 3pm and the first bus back is not till 7pm what do you do for 4 hours if you don't go to the event? I don't suppose you are anywhere near a bus or rail route to return to civilisation on arrival. So at most you could only bash two olys in a day if I am thinking correctly with a big fester in the middle with no food, drink, public conveniences etc. Is this assumption accurate?

Zone ticket 3? you lost me there, man fare is £22 from Edinburgh, You get booked into a time slot every 30mins there will not allow you to wait or get on a bus outside your slotted time. of course up to 4-8 could leave within that slot!

Well you could take pics of the buses while up there, you will be able to grab alot!

The 23 runs every 2 hours, between Stirling and St Andrews, from Balado village, Kinros or Milnathort, not sure where the buses from Edinburgh drop off. Or walk into Kinross or Milnathort for the 201 to Glenrothes or the regular Citylink/Parks/Megabus service to Perth, Dunfermline and Edinburgh.

I would not recommend buying Citylink travel tickets on the special TitP shuttle services, if you simply want to bash Olympians.
The temporary "bus station" is a long way from any regular local bus services.
The Citylink fares are very expensive.
You would not always be able to pick which bus you travel on, so could fork out a fortune and end up travelling on something other than an Olympian.

The Golflink service between Drem station and Gullane, for The Open Championship would certainly be a cheaper option, however you would once again have the difficulty of not being guaranteed an Olympian, as they are more likely to be used on the Park & Ride services.

Thanks for all your replies it does look anything other than straightforward.

The reference I made to zone 3 comes from page 5 of the T in the Park city link page which has eight different zone categories for tickets and Edinburgh comes up as zone 3 but I don't understand the significance of it.

The location of the event is recorded as 5.5 miles from Kinross so it sounds like a long walk to the nearest bus route having no local knowledge of the area.

Maybe the Park and Ride shuttles to the golf is my best bet for an oly bash depending on how that works in practice having no experience of it.

Failing that maybe I would be better off leaving it until the schools break up and perhaps some olys will work in public service but it is all very iffy unless I go somewhere different like Arran for the B10's which should be a certainty.

The PS is still about, it was sitting in Kirkcaldy bus stance for most of Saturday.

There is still two Olys at Dunfermline.

The B7TLs make occasional appearances on the main Tayway service, particularly on the peak only workings.
A mix of the oldest and the newest of the B7TLs were transferred to Fife, when the E400s entered service, with the ones in-between staying.
The MCW Metrobuses were all withdrawn many years ago, and have probably been recycled many times over by now!!
The remaining Olympians are most often found on school/college related workings.

Those two St andrews olypians, will be gone by next weekend since its the start of the Scottish school holidays and there aways park the spare school buses down in Aberhill.

Thanks I have to correct myself as it appears only two must have been caped as three of them sat in the sunshine in St Andrews for hours for birds to bask on top of them. I don't know what olys would be camped out at Aberhill.

I was enjoying a curry in Dundee this evening when 16772 went by empty from the direction of the bus station at 1905 so rather late to be off a school run. Do they do garage runs after 7pm or could it have done the 20 from Forfar due at 1856? I will probably never know but it withered me.

Anyway if the olys keep getting withdrawn will there be enough vehicles for TitP and Muirfield alongside normal services? I suppose buses can be drafted in from other areas to help out like as happens at Cheltenham.

One other question are olys involved in rail replacements as I gather buses replace trains between Kirkcaldy and Inverkeithing this weekend?

There are just three B10M-55s left now in service in the whole of east scotland, one of which is 20342 at Glenrothes. The other two are 20151 and 20916 at Perth, and these are likely to survive beyond June, as Perth and Kinross contracts have a higher upper age limit than Fife.

This was not tendered as part of the main Mid Fife exercise, but is a duplicate bus which Stagecoach have been running since the Easter holidays, but it finishes next week.
