How would this work? Don't forget the shop area has no windows, so would these be added (could be costly), or would this area be used for luggage space?

Bear in mind also, the average XC journey is less than 80 miles.

Possibly, I'd imagine they'll mainly be used on stuff that used to have 2 x Voyager, so depends whether any of those services will be terminating at MAN with the new service patterns.

I thought they were being chopped at New Street though to remove as many trains crossing over? But yes, I'd imagine the NE and SW corridors are most likely to see them.

Nope, the Preston/Carlisles are being chopped at Manchester Piccadilly, but there will still be services from Bristol to Newcastle (and extentions of)

Well Virgin will be down to one franchise if they dont win the IC-EC and will be like GNER but not as expensive.

Good that they have a website already like London Midland, i have yet to see an East Midlands live site up yet, Stagecoach are slacking (i just really wanna see what their livery would be like, same goes for LM)

Removing the shop does seem a bad idea, a trolley service just cant compare.

Im just glad that they decided not to use Arriva corporate colours and omitting the Arriva from the trains if what they say about ATW is true. Arriva isnt bad of a bus operator here in the south and im talking outside London, Southern Counties and The Shires & Essex have invested in new buses. Even Arriva in Merseyside has quite a new fleet.

Maybe they should splash out (not excessively) for the ATW and get rid of them Pacers.

I take it as seeing as theres no 158 livery mock ups, that fleet will be going to London Midland and East Midlands.

At least Virgin wont be adding more fumes into the atmosphere with this entire diesel fleet (I could imagine Branson saying that too :D) all they need to worry about is the Voyagers on the North Wales route.

I also thought the Voyager name was licensed to Virgin which is why the 222s have to be named Pioneers/Meridians.

Guildford seems like a terminal with no purpose, they should reconsider a re-extension to Brighton.

Also noticed it wont be passing through London AT ALL :(

With the production line of the Voyagers closed they then made 222s, would it be likely that the 222 production line being re-opened but with Voyager modifications.

Voyagers should have been 5/6 carriages in the first place.

Also on the new XC website it showed their bid proposals. Would there be any way in finding out what the competitors were? I heard that NX were to get more trains, especially for the BHM - STN route.

I've just been reading through these posts and many people seem to forget how busy the north east down to the south east gets. Everyone is going on about NE to SW but NE to SE can get just as busy.

Shame to see Virgin lose it!

Won't be called Virgin as it's a joint venture and no 1 party has a forced holding - if anything it would be Intercity Railways as thats the trading name of the bid company.

At an Arriva press conference they said they have plans to fit MTU engines into powercars. However, there is still confusion as to how many power cars are actually left, I've heard that Stagecoach signed a deal a few weeks ago and these may have been the ones Arriva had their eyes on!

Which means Arriva may already have trouble with their franchise commitments!
