Warrington BQ to Chester routeing

Would a Warrington to Chester Cheap Day Return, route Any Permitted, be valid via Crewe?

TCBC says yes (map CG), but it's very overdistance and I don't really want to excess! Via Crewe is a backup on split tickets from Blackpool in the event of the six minute connection for the direct service failing to work.

So yes, permitted route as per the same method as trains can be cheaper. If it makes you feel more comfortable, take print outs of the relevent links I have provided, and maybe even Condition 13 of the National Rail Conditions of Carriage.

It may be easier to explain if you take an itinerary showing that route with you. You probably won't get asked, as ticket sites will give this route if you just ask for "Warrington to Chester" most times of the day, but train staff are more likely to be familiar with "the web site told me I could" arguments than with routeing guide ones.

It's certainly allowed on connections via Warrington, and I've used it on just the occasions you mention (missing the 6-minute Pendo connection from Preston) without problems.
