Train Driver / Driver Operator


We are looking for Qualified Train Drivers & Driver Operators to cover the following depots:

PEAK FOREST
1 x Train Driver

ACTON
3 x Driver Operator

EASTLEIGH
3 x Driver Operator

These positions are for qualified mainline driver and (essentially) qualified depot drivers.

For the Driver Operator jobs I feel they are looking more for already qualified Depot Drivers maybe from other TOCs... Of cause if they don't get enough applying I'm sure they will have to consider new trainees. I was speaking to a Depot Driver at Northern saying he got offered one of these Driver Opp jobs with DB Schenker without much effort, but turned it down in the end.

I've just received an email from EMT stating that I was unsuccessful in progressing to the Assessment Day. However, my application will be kept on file for their next recruitment drive. I've not seen that on an 'unsuccessful' letter before, interesting.

Following compliance and strict policy you’ll be responsible for Depot driving, shunting, light maintenance and many other tasks.

In fact, there’s a wide variety of duties including the preparation, marshalling and disposing of vehicles at your Depot; fitting and removing ETH shore supply, coupling and uncoupling and re-marshalling trains and traction units; servicing traction and rolling stock including re-fuelling, replenishing and draining water, oil, coolant and water as necessary; and reporting any irregularities, faults and movement problems.

You’ll also be labelling, cleaning cab interiors and exteriors, particularly windscreens, and checking that the train environment is up to our market leading standards. This is an important role for which full training will be given.

You’ll need to have a personable, positive and professional approach; the ability to follow set rules and procedures in a safety conscious environment, exceptional concentration skills, self discipline and the willingness to work shifts.

These roles will be required to work 38 hours per week over a 24 hour roster with Sundays forming part of the working week. These roles are safety critical and appointment into these positions will be made upon successful completion of the full external Driver Assessment to Mainline Standards, an interview and the passing of a Driver Standard Medical.

I made it all the way to the structured interview. Talk about a grilling, all the lads that came out were shaking their heads; I'm not very confident either. A shame really to pass all those tests but fail on the last one. Should know later in week whether I go on to next stage but doubtful. Time for a beer!

I was interviewed by the younger of the two women. Very uncomfortable. Told me I'd hear soon if succesful. Am not too confident myself. When i did the test at DBSchenker last time I was told as soon as interview finished that I had passed......

Couldn't tell you that but that was the last one as far as I'm aware and I would be surprised if we are informed of the outcome any later than Monday by which time the CBIs from Friday will have been scored and fed back to EMT
