Friend of mine has the attitude on Tuesday. Does anyone know what this entails as he's freaking out. I've not heard anything yet for my app, my surname starts with S. My friends surname starts with H so its looking plausible that its alphabetical.

I was under the impression that the pass would last for a minimum of 18 months, does anyone know if thats correct or if first do things differently?

Have received my invitation to an assessment day next Tuesday, 26th March.

Comprehensive instructions and a format of the selection process accompanied the email, Tuesday's assessment will last just over an hour and is purely a fault-finding exercise.

I dont want to come across as pedantic Vicline, (not even sure if I've spelt that right) but would the free rail travel commence from my home station (Chorley) to Huddersfield or would I have to pay myself for travel to, say Man Pic if that was my base and then get free travel onwards?

You get free travel on TPE services and 75% off travel with other TOCs.

First's fault finding test isn't part of the official driver assessments. It's their own test to get numbers down. Once you pass this (which if you've passed all the driver assessment elements should be straight forward) then you wouldn't have to attend their next two assessment days, you will jump straight to driver interview.

I too passed an assessment with DB Schenker in October...I'd rather not go through it all again. Maybe someone can shed some light on why we need to do it again?

Once you pass this (which if you've passed all the driver assessment elements should be straight forward) then you wouldn't have to attend their next two assessment days, you will jump straight to driver interview.

He has forwarded on the E-mail to me and all it says for stage 1 is:

You will undertake an aptitude test which measures your fault-finding ability. There is no practice material provided for this particular test and there is nothing specifically that we need to advise you of in advance of this assessment. All instructions will be provided on the day together with the practice material required for the subsequent assessments.

I understand this is nothing to do with the standard rail assessments as the group boredom ect. are at a later date. Does anyone know what to expect on day 1? What kind of things are on it? is it basically the mechanical test? Any help would be helpful. Thanks a lot.

Hi neil, yes I did see the post but i'm so full of manflu at the mo not much is making sense. Taken my first day off work since I started with my firm so it must be bad! ha.

I need to make sure my friend looks on here him self and stop being lazy! How dare he get through and not me.

Unsure as to what 'on hold' stipulates but I'm still in the pile to be sifted according to my status. I reckon all those that have made the sift would have been given the nod by now as the assessments are next week (Mon - Wed I believe). Oh well c'est la vie

Same position, same opinion. Still not sure how I wasn't binned during the sift, based on my borderline reactions pass from January. I'm sure the rejection mail will arrive before Friday is out. If anyone was getting the invite for next week's tests, they'll have had it by now. Ironically I've got next week off work, it'd have been an ideal time for it...

Mine is updated to unsuccessful shortlisting, so that's that then. Not at all surprised or too bothered at this stage, rejection seems all too familiar in this process and I'm thinking it's probably best to focus my attention elsewhere. Gutted for you mate BUT dont give up. There are countless stories of people on this site who have applied many many times to get where you want to be so you just have to keep your chin up pal and go again. It's what I'll be telling myself no doubt once I get my 'nooo' email later today .

If my application is still showing awaiting shortlisting is there even the smallest possibility that there is a select group that's going directly to stage 2 as stage 1 is solely a FTPE thing? Looking at my friends e-mail, it doesn't seem that any of the standard tests are on stage 1. Just a though as its a bit strange that the status of my app hasn't changed and so many people have heard both good and bad.

Cheers mate, I'll keep applying as and when they come up, but realistically knowing I'd have to drop lucky to get in. To have had an interview with Northern and assessments at DBS, were a step in the right direction. I'm fortunate in that the job I'm in is fine and pays well enough so there's no rush, what I need to do is gain additional skills where possible. I have assessments coming up to volunteer with the fire service, so hopefully that goes well and helps. Fingers crossed that they are keeping some of you are hanging on for a reason.

Surprising if they are straddling the Easter weekend, but then they know more about recruitment than I do. I still find it odd that someone who can't get the job hasn't been rejected yet, however. Especially as we're more than 6 weeks into the 5 weeks they said they'd let me know in...
