On Sunday, 24th March, Wrexham and Grimsby play at Wembley in the Final of The Carlsberg Cup. ATW are runnung a special train leaving Wrexham Gen at 09 15 and running non-stop to Wembley. The ATW Premier Service (Gerallt) stock and one of the Class 67s will be used. Tickets must be booked in advance, the only means of purchase is in person at Wrexham Booking Office and Seat Reservation tickets will be issued at the same time.

Hi all,

Arriva Trains Wales are advertising on their website that, in connection with the Wrexham FC vs. Grimsby Town FC final at Wembley Stadium, they are to provide a train for fans wishing to travel to the game.

The outbound train will depart Wrexham General at 0915 to arrive at Wembley Staium station at 1246 while the return train will leave at 1741 or, in the event of extra time and / or penalties, 1841. Both trains will run non-stop.

Can't find the train codes & routing info on OTT but good to see that football specials seem to be making a bit of a comeback. ATW's new release on their website...

The special was on the Menu when Mike Bagshaw ATW Director spoke to us on Wednesday at Wrexham, you will see my report on RF forums.Arrangements were being finalized he told us.

We do indeed have ex WSRC drivers on RF forums,some work for ATW now & know the route well, also Chiltern another DB Company have drivers on DVT/67s & work from Birmingham, I am delighted ATW now appreciate the importance of Wrexham, & when the redouble is finished in 2015 it will be the busiest station in North Wales with up to three trains an hour each way.I am told the fare is around £37 return to Wembley.

I suspect the route of this service will be :

Wrexham - Shrewsbury - Wolverhampton - Bescot - Perry Barr - Aston - Stetchford - Coventry - Leamington Spa then on to Wembley Stadium.

I would also hazard a guess that the service may be routed via Birmingham New Street as then you could have an ATW driver take the service Wrexham - Birmingham, do Chester depot sign the loco hauled?. And then Chiltern driver take over for the run to Wembley Stadium, as haven't they just route learnt New Street in connection with planned works some time soon?.

They're offering standard class at £39.50 and 1st class at £54.50 does anyone know if 1st class will have a dining offering?

I presume its only 14 First class?,unless demand gets the spare involved.

I think it is the loco hauled stock run by ATW on behalf of the WAG.

Speaking of the Final, how are Grimsby fans supposed to cope with their main exit route closed and the others often low on capacity?

Think it's for signalling/ARS reasons - seem to recall it being mentioned as a kettle down the Chilterns a while back was also marked as a DMU/Sprinter. The LHCS sets are the same.

Laziness, all of the old WSMR timing loads and SRTs are still there in the system and were timed as such when they were still running.

And it is timed at Telford and Beaconsfield without stopping and terminates on a ½ minute.....pffft...

Gets even better, the return journey is timed as a 158 from Wembley with the same mistakes, oh the irony.

I expect it's timed for a Sprinter just in case the stock has to be subbed and/or is stuck due to bad weather - there's a LOT of snow forecast for N Wales tonight and tomorrow - if Gerald is stuck at Holyhead they may have to resort to a unit or two.

Very many thanks Jordy, appreciate your assistance,non soccer types also on board, with a foot . of snow in Wrexham Gerald, is the way to travel on Sunday .where i Live we have 15 foot drifts on the drive due to wind,worst in 40 years up here,wont get out for days.
