Don't hold your breath or make your plans for 30777. Slight problem with overrunning engineering works!

According to the ever-reliable www.uksteam.info, Tangmere will be standing in for 30777 with a diesel on the Guildford to Alton leg "due to pathing difficulties".

God damn it. I've seen Tangmere so many times. Still at least its a Southern engine.

Just hope 30777 will be ready for the Cath Ex to Canterbury in July.

This is from a post on the National Preservation forum:

Latest news is that the GCR have been delayed progressing 30777's firebox restaying due to delay in outside engineering facilities producing specialised tools ( now just arrived on site) to enable the inside of the firebox crown to be correctly prepared for the new stays.
You will recall that Sir Lamiel's firebox has an unusual type of crown stay, and they have had to cut a slot in the outer firebox to get to the area. Sounds quite major!

There is no indication as to when the work is likely to be complete, but they are also progressing other work on the loco at the same time, like a recent piston and valve exam.

Is that on 25 July? If so, www.uksteam.info has Tangmere replacing 30777 on that too. I thought I read somewhere that Sir Lamiel won't be out to play until the autumn.

Yep that was what I was on about. Funny enough I saw the replacement shown on UKSteam just before you posted.

I do admit that Tangmere is a bit repetitive, but it might be under its guise of Spitfire by 25th July? I recall seeing one tour on UKSteamInfo stating 34067 would be running as 34066?

Tangmere will be running as Spitfire for some railtours down to Folkestone Harbour and the London Bridge - Faversham, Brighton - Faversham Sheppard Neame railtours in September.

30777 does indeed still have a large hole in it's side. Can't be any more technical than that because I know sweet F.A about steam engines but it doesn't look like it will be ready overly soon.

34016 Bodmin and 35005 Canadian Pacific have had their gauges calibrated and boiler fittings refitted. Can Pacs recieved a new floor plate of its smokebox.

In other news Bittern made a run under its own steam from Ropley to Medstead and back!

So 34016 and 35005 should be used for the Mid Hants End of Southern Steam thing.

35005 passed its steam test, however will be in service for another year before a "heavy general overhaul".

As for Swanage, well how are the locos getting there? I know one is banking 34067 from Weymouth on Friday night.

Ahh yes i see now, since the 2nd of April 2007. The M7 is moving quickly ahead with one week left now, while on work experiance i saw her in steam presumably for a test and i dont know the condidtion of the exterior but since moving in its definatly needed a repaint.
