Does the WAG Express do any silver service type stuff? When I travelled on it the food was absolutely superb.

Yup. Already done just that Flamingo!

E-mail to Customer Services always goes out before I take to forums to praise/complain.

Then I can later post about the feedback or further complain about how long the feedback is taking.

As for the chips. Not too bad and I assume they are cooked in the fast convection oven. I didn't ask. However they are cooked they do have a nice 'fried' taste. No way though that chef has a chip pan in the MK3 kitchen....

I think they are some kind of oven-chip, I'll ask one of the chefs tomorrow - I don't work many trains with them. As I said, I've heard mixed reports.

If anyone from FGW (or any other TOC) reads this, can I please point out that we have excellent produce in South Wales and we would be delighed to partake of it in the more demanding shorter travel times on our routes.

Scollops or a lightly cooked fish with a hot/cold mixed salad and a glass of white wine are divine as a lunch or evening break.

Ah. I couldn't remember, it was 2010 when I last was on it.

EMT do silver service breakfast on a few trains a day but that's all. The rest of the food isn't bad for what it is, though.

I used to sell it as a reduced price 1st class upgrade (in the pre advanced tickets days).

Ah. The good old days when paying for a meal in the restaurant car was often a free pass into first class accomodation.

It was very clear that the staff had the right to send you back to standard class once you had finished eating, but I don't recall them ever excercising that right. Or maybe I left without being told, this was some time ago.

Well, that's still the case with the FGW Pullmans. If space permits of course. Never a problem on the 'up' lunchtime services from Plymouth. And occasionally even possible on the 'downs' from Paddington/Reading in the evening.

Engage with the staff and tip well and you'll find they're in no hurry to turf you out! In fact, on my most recent Pullman trip the Chief Steward and Train Manager allowed my travelling companion and I to sit in Coach G while the restaurant was laid up. And we were travelling on some 'interesting' (but perfectly valid) Standard Class split tickets...

Unless you are the bloke who was sat behind me on the 1255 ex Plymouth a few weeks ago. Absolutely s***faced and singing 'Happy Birthday' to himself (he was dining alone). The Chief Steward did a very good job in removing him from Coach F back to Standard as soon as he'd settled his bill.
