On the 0800/0845 number, if it is an immediate problem causing danger then it's 999 like any other emergency service...

I have no other word to describe the culprits on a public forum apart from "idiots".
I also have reported this to YouTube. Hopefully the video will be removed to prevent any utterly-misguided self- (or other) glorification.
From about 1:40 to 1:57 is it just me or is one of them (the camera man) lying in the four foot with the train going over him? Going from what's being said immediately before/after the train passes.

Stupid act to be doing. Don't see how reporting it to BTP could help, most of the video is dark anyway. Just leave it is what I say, not saying what they are doing is right, they are complete nutters and shouldn't be doing what they are doing.
Whilst this video is stupid and I don't condone this kind of thing I have to say it does show how fascinating railway tunnels actually are. Far more than just a long tube with tracks running through.
When I was a driver on southern I once had the privilige of being cautioned all the way through Clayton tunnel at 10mph. There is a whole other world under there. There were Pway working in there, hence the caution, and there a a couple of mess rooms with working toilet facilities etc, was fascinating to crawl past these refuges with lights on peering down what looked like long corridors leading down to various rooms for those working there.
As I say, I'm not encouraging this kind of video, just saying that railway tunnels certainly can be fascinating places.

I was thinking that. If someone offered me the opportunity to have a walk through Box Tunnel, offically, I'd definetly be interested off the back of that video!

There's a long standing (completly false) urban legend that suggests that in the 1960s a Strategic Steam Reserve was created out of retired steam locomotives to run the network in the event of nuclear war. This reserve was, supposedly, stored in sidings in the middle of Box Tunnel. There's no truth to it but it still does the rounds as a fun story.

It seems to have stemmed from the fact that next to the eastern portal there IS another tunnel entrance, which leads to a large area which was originally a quarry and then was used for military storage and as an ammunition depot (I think). This is where the locos were supposedly stored.
On top of that the whole area was used for quarrying Bath stone and the area has also been used extensively for MOD facilities, so it's not surprising that rumours have been rife!

There are a few side passages and the such like in St Johns Wood tunnel. You can see them if you are following something into MYB on yellows. Fascinating places indeed.
Thinking about it when I'm slightly less tired you're right that does make much more sense! Shame no one decided to make use of the facilities whilst he was there

When walking up in Dentdale/Ribblehead one year, my mate did suggest walking back to the pub via Blea Moor tunnel as there was engineering work on the line and so no trains were running. I said wasn't worth it as we only had 1 torch, you'd soon get fed up of the sleeper spacing not fitting your stride, we could get done for trespass and there might be the odd engineering works train running. We went over the top...

If you want to walk a railway tunnel safely and legally, you should walk the Monsall Trail between Bakewell and Buxton in Derbyshire.
Alternatively you could work in the industry and get paid to do it. Years ago I had the satisfaction of walking the length of Kilsby Tunnel in Northants, the eastern approach tunnels at Birmingham New Street, Belsize Tunnels in North London and others.

When working for BR I took up the opportunity to walk through Balcombe Tunnel when the Brighton line was blocked for engineering work to see "work in progress". I got soaked several times from unexpected showers of water leaking from the tunnel roof. It was quite an experience walking through the tunnel and I was glad to be with a gang of and not on my own.
I have also walked through several disused tunnels such as Lywood ( to be reopened by the Bluebell Railway),Crescent Wood (South London) and Argos Hill (Sussex).
