Slightly at a tangent for a special tunnel experience try the floodlit canal tunnel near Falkirk on the Forth and Clyde, it is an experience.
Stupid act to be doing. Don't see how reporting it to BTP could help, most of the video is dark anyway. Just leave it is what I say, not saying what they are doing is right, they are complete nutters and shouldn't be doing what they are doing.
I was thinking that. If someone offered me the opportunity to have a walk through Box Tunnel, offically, I'd definetly be interested off the back of that video!
By your reckoning, what is the point of reporting any crime if the perpetrators have "gone home by now"?![]()
The video was, according to the information on youtube, uploaded in November 2012. Considering that they are probably not still there, and unless the participants are clearly identifiable from the video footage, had left DNA evidence at the scene, or have admitted under caution to being there, then I would have thought it unlikely that the CPS would run it.
Many cases are NFA'd by the police and the CPS, even when there is more than just eyewitness evidence. This is not because the police are more interested in prosecuting speeding motorists, or eating doughnuts, it's because they know all too well that they don't always get the support they need and deserve from magistrates and judges. Also because of the rules of evidence, many perpetrators of crimes know that all they need to do in order to avoid seeing the inside of a courtroom, is to deny any wrongdoing. After all, they've had a bad example set to them by several members of parliament over the years.
I have no other word to describe the culprits on a public forum apart from "idiots".
I also have reported this to YouTube. Hopefully the video will be removed to prevent any utterly-misguided self- (or other) glorification.
BTP can force Youtube to hand over details of the account and IP address used to upload the video, and trace that back to an ISP who can be forced to hand over the details of the customer who had that IP at that time.
Matching the resident(s) of that house and/or their acquaintances to that video would be fairly trivial for a competent detective not to mention the possibility of recovering the camera that matches the video's metadata (again available from Youtube), possibly with the original recording.
What a massive waste of time and police resources. And anyone who is bright enought can mask who they are where they are and what they're wearing when using the web. Its pretty simple stuff.
An equally misguided post and action. Reporting to you tube and hoping it gets removed, will destroy potential evidence for BTP if they have yet to action the complaints they have received
True but if someone is stupid enough to go into a tunnel with active rail lines and then post the video on Youtube, I would be highly surprised if they'd paid for and used a private anonymising VPN. Any public service like Tor would have its exit nodes blocked by Google's upload servers.
It's also not time consuming, or a waste of resources they can simply fire off a standard template request that will take a desk worker in the e-crime unit less than 5 minutes to do.
Exactly. What a massive waste of time and police resources.
Exactly.
I'm sure the police have got more important things to do, such as responding to emergencies, or investigating violent crime, cable theft, fraud etc. And overdue library books.
Im sorry but its rather naive of you to think that anyone who wanted to mask where they came from on the web would pay for an VPN unless they really were up to something. Your basic proxy browser will do that for free and these are on servers where they dish out addresses by the thousands every minute and by the time the connection is closed from the home user it is given to someone else. And they're based outside of googles remit so it would be futile. Theres even better ones than that out there that are free.
By all means report that some idiots are being idiots on the railway but get some perspectiveon finding people using their isp.
Good luck uploading a Youtube video through a browser proxy! Not to mention that all the random addresses that are anonymised through their public servers will emerge within a small, finite range of IPs that will already be on Google's/Youtube's blacklist.
I havent seen the video so really cant comment on that but out of interest how many of you claiming it should be reported to the BTP and all that under the name of trespass, looked in wonder and amazement at the Post office railway thread or anything else railway related that may be up on 28 days later? I pretty much dont remember a single squeak about it.

For a while Ive been debating the pros and cons of publishing these stories, part of me wants to separate myself from them as far as humanly possible, while the other reminds me well, whats done is done.
Since Ive already been punished for these activities i dont see the harm in posting them online. Ive made it abundantly clear by now that the punishments for attempting what i did are serious and long term, as such i can in no way be seen to be positively promoting the idea of doing the same. I guess as always, ill never know the official reaction until i receive that fated 6am knock on the door.
On the Silent UK website where the Mail Rail (post office railway) tour came from, they later post on another visit that they have been punished by the legal system in some way. Let me dig out the quote...
