No special reporting number, and no special train notice. Fewer people will be told about this than movements of the proper Royal Train.

As the precise route and timings of the royal train is supposed to be kept secret shouldn't they have put a bag on her head until she boarded at King's Cross?

That's the thing though. Nobody knows until she turns up. Same for her impromptu (to the general public) visits to the theatre etc.

X has been used for the Royal Train.
The old 1X01 number hasn't been used by the Royal Train for many years, it has a 1Zxx number like any other special passenger train. This way it does not attract attention.

Anyone else in first class that gets turfed out?!

If it was busy, I suppose the Queen and Kate would need to battle it out for the seat allocated to those less able to stand or pregnant.

Yes they do.

FCC will have been notified at least 24hrs in advance. A unit will have been selected for the service (one that's recently been through a heavy clean and has no open reliability issues) and a travelling fitter or RSI will be on board.

It used to be the trailer vehicle with the disabled toilet was LOOU for the use of HRH.

Various members of the royal family have been using 365's for years, including Prince Andrew.......

I rode in the back cab on one royal service back in the day and it was run as a normal service, no priority from signallers. The driver didn't even know he was driving a special until a DM and the route director turned up to ride up front with him.

I meant the general public! Of course she doesn't just turn up at the station and then realise that she hasn't got any cash and can't buy a ticket, or arrive at a theatre and expect to get late tickets!!

What I meant is that there's not always the need for high-profile security, cordoning off areas etc when the best security is lack of knowledge. That is unless an armed terrorist just happens to be nearby and sees as an opportunity.

wonder if she had a valid ticket, or FCC are prosecuting her yet?

I think she has Sovereign immunity. Probably wouldn't stop some of jonmorris's "friends" from MG11'ing her though

X is only used if the train is out of gauge when travelling so according to the fantastic Realtime Trains website (cheap plug from the Mick Foley school of Cheap Plugs) it ran as it's booked head code which was 1T08.

The Duke of Edinburgh is out of gauge for some station doors. If ****ted on the forehead by a lintel he'll comment that they were probably made for Pygmies and the Japanese. There is a safety case for this potential PR mishap.

I'm just glad she's avoided the overhead problems that have been plaguing us recently... Perhaps FCC should name a 365 for her? Although that would limit unit flexibility somewhat every year.

Or get a dedicated IEP if those come around! Wait, there's already a royal train :o

91029/91129 was named "Queen Elizabeth II" during both Intercity and GNER days. I'm surprised that it is not a name that East Coast have reinstated, now that they have taken to naming their class 91s and power cars.

FCC will also know well in advance that she'll be travelling to Sandringham in the week before Christmas, probably late morning/early afternoon (to avoid busy services), by train. I.E. what she does every year...

I wonder how many other heads of state you'll see travelling like this?

Wasn't it Nicolas Sarcozy (sp?) in the French elections that posed next to the Standard Class sign on a TGV, then once the had media left strode right through it into First?

Most European royals will travel with considerably less fuss than even this journey. The Japanese emperor though has his own EMU.

In light of the BBC's Christmas message story this evening and the time of day HM Queen was travailing to Sandringham, does one deduce that the Xmas speech was recorded there?

I tend to ignore the BBC's opinion on the Royals as it is so biased! But like I said before nice to see her travelling by scheduled train. As far as security goes it would be minimal as that attracts the least amount of attention but im sure FCC and the driver are made aware that she is travelling.

Wonder if she used the on-board loo?
Prince Charles reckons she's spent far too much time on the throne already ;)

X has been used for the Royal Train.

Maybe in the past but not anymore.

It will still be 1Txx but with a note on it to the signaller and driver as far as I am aware.

That's what I thought it would have been too.

I've definitely not been on it then! ;)

You ought to see the state that the commuters leave the trains in especially in the evenings, partly the fault of the blasted free papers though as well.

The trains just resemble rubbish bins with newspapers and other rubbish everywhere, not nice but unless you want cleaners on every FCC service in the peak which ain't possible the trains won't be clean because of the above

True story, the little bins between back-to-back seats and near doors fill up so quickly - if people bother to use them. Even outside of the peaks they aren't great.

FCC has some very good (and quite cheerful) staff to clean trains with short turnarounds and in the peaks I'm yet to encounter a train that's a mess.

It's a problem more at weekends and evenings, or if a group have had a mini party on the train and deposited food and drink everywhere. Trains aren't held to be cleaned beyond stuffing things in a clear bag.

Say, like a Royal party?

Wonder if the cleaners had to pick up dozens of quails egg shells and Swan sandwich wrappers.

Buckingham Palace is thought to have booked all 12 seats in the rear compartment. A one-way ticket costs £50 — or £33 if the Queen had used a senior railcard.

Really? So they were issued reservations for a non reservable train or did they just pay for 12 hoping they wouldn't have to stand?

She can't just demand the whole carriage to herself (and party), who does she think she is? The blooming Queen of somewhere?
