With the stock shortage at GA, what is the possibility of GA hiring in 47's to top and tail a few carriages again?
Sounds like a claimed DMU shortage, from what transportphoto has said. Are the 317/7s readily available - for anyone?

The 8 at Eastleigh could be ready to go at reasonably short notice, but as it stands there is no demand for EMUs until all the new electrification is done.
Not quite.
LM have demand for a similar number of EMUs but they've been allowed to place an order for brand new 350s.
Northern don't really have enough 323s to cover the North West electric routes at present but they won't exactly want to take on 3 x 317s.
There's also demand for extra carriages in the Southern and SWT franchises but the 317s won't provide enough and with them being AC only it would require a complicated cascade to make effective use of them.
Particually short this weekend due to a couple of stopped 170s. Will just be 156 v 170 & 153 v 156 on some diagrams. Breath in everyone!!
They are all in cold store at Eastleigh, aside from 317722 which is undergoing an experimental rebuild at Ilford. The 8 at Eastleigh could be ready to go at reasonably short notice, but as it stands there is no demand for EMUs until all the new electrification is done.
No chance, as they have an agreement with EMT that means some Wherry Lines services are worked by 158s. If reliablility worsens, I think they will hire an ATW 150 or EMT 158 before they revert back to LHCS. It's a shame, but it will probably not happen again.

Emt 158 really wouldn't both EMT and GA prefer it to be a 156 however EMT are also short of units due to unusually high number of breakdowns and so wouldn't have anything to hire to them. However if anyone wants an extra unit 153308 wouldn't be missed. However some of the masking tape keeping he roof panels to the roof could do with replacing
Having fun with that one then? Unfortunately, it's one of the ex Wessex / inFamous 4 that puts the proverbial 'Dog' in 'Dogbox'. I can't remember which unit it was, but one of them had a almost constant report of excessive whistling noise in one of the cab's. Mind you, Wessex's repairs were hardly anything special either (even worse if it took a trip to one dreaded depot!).
Im in a way, surprised though that SWT hasn't sent a spare unit across again.
Indeed, there has been some shortfall with the EMT 158 fleet of late, resulting in 156s turning up on Liverpool - Norwich diagrams with 2x 153 substitutions on other services (and others downgraded to a single 153). I believe this is settling down again, but it doesn't mean there is slack in the fleet to allow a loan of stock to GA. I believe only SWT have sufficient slack in their DMU fleet to really be able to loan stock out.
