Apologies...I forgot about Sporting Lisbon being one of them. It just seemed that the La Liga teams all put together some very solid home and away performances in the Europa league last year.

I am feeling somewhat in a better frame of mind, football-wise, this weekend with both Hyde and Oldham Athletic gaining victories which will help the league positions of both clubs.

Reports suggest Rio was celebrating in front of the United fans, who as the away fans were presumably were in a small section surrounded by the home fans.

What about Rooney being pelted with missiles while taking a corner? Has he "had this coming for years" because he goes up to take corners?

Which might be the problem! Celebrations these days are carefully choreographed and planned beforehand, and are designed to inflame the more primitive emotions of the mob (sorry, fans). We all know what Rio does you haven't followed Utd long enough or you still have your rose tinted spectacles on.

I have seen Rio play football since he was a youngster in West Hams team and he would try incite opposing fans then, so nothing has changed in the 20 intervening years.

No need to add the issue of Rooney to the mix to add weight to your argument.

You say 'reports were that he was cheering in front of Utd fans' so you wasnt there, as i am not a utd or city fan neither was i, however from the layout i know at the Etihad where he was celebrating was not where City put away fans. If that was also the case how comes a city fan throw a coin from that section and how comes a city fan was the only fan on the pitch,and came from that section. What about the angel utd fans if that was there end why didnt they get on the pitch and remonstrate with the lone city fan, or even celebrate with Ferdinand in the first place.

Do you not think either that Ferdinand acted professional? Swearing and wanting to get to the city fan. I know that if i was swearing like him in front of 50,000 in the stadium and millions on the tv i would be sacked with no hesitation, no matter what the circumstances are.

Replays quite clearly show he and the other United players were celebrating in front of the away (United) section. As the away allocation is less than 10% of capacity and occupies both tiers of the stand it's a very narrow section. Missiles were thrown from the City fans on both sides.

You did not read my first response on this matter when i said i am not condonning what took place. But why let facts get in the way of a good soundbite.

As for the insult of being a Clhelsea fan, i detest them as much as i do Utd and city.

Nothing to do with accuracy, as it wasn't a single coin.

If you watch the video of the coin hitting Ferdinand, in just the very small area in the video around him there are a number of other coins visible. Presumably there were a lot more in the wider area around him. It could be that hundreds of coins and other missiles were thrown at the celebrating United players.

If you throw enough coins at enough matches eventually one will hit a player above the eye and draw blood.


If there's any doubt that he was celebrating with the rest of the United players in front of the United fans this seems to be he moment he was hit (he's the furthest player on the right).

Surely it's time for this guy to get out of the Premier League and find his level back at Wycombe.

This current Arsenal team are shocking, absolutely shocking in fact they are worse then shocking they are an embarrassment. Arsenal will be trophy less for years to come. They are very myopic and deserve everything thrown at them. Pity we dont have stocks anymore i would put the whole lot in one of them and allow 60,000 to throw there rotten tomatoes at them.

It is an absolute embarrassment to admit i am a Arsenal fan. Never put your trust in a bloody Yank, look t the mess the club find themselves in, i was shocked when Emirates paid £150 million for club sponsorship. Oh how the Arsenal board laughed themselves silly.

It will take longer then i have got to live on this planet of ours before Arsenal will be a title contender again. It is a shocking state of affairs.

With Walcott seemingly on his way to Old Trafford and Sagna unlikely to sign a new contract, it makes you wonder if Arsenal will finish in the top 10 never mind the top 4.

When the transfer window is open in January and with the embarrassment of the club losing to a Division 4 club fresh in the memory and with the inevitable exit at the first time of asking in the FA Cup at the Liberty and already out of running in the league, the question will have to be Who in there right mind would want to play with this outfit.

I am unfortunately old enough to remember an Arsenal team performing badly in a cup competition many years ago, which puts last nights result into some perspective of embarrassment to their long-suffering supporters. At least, last nights performance was not a national football cup final, just a match at somewhat of a lower-level.

The match to which I refer was the 1969 League Cup final, which was played at the old Wembley Stadium in front of nearly 100,000 spectators. The final score in that match was....

Incidentally, there are not all that many professional teams that have the first name of their manager to be quite similar to the name of the team that he manages.
