Although the bodies if the IC125's will be fairly old when they are replaced by IEP in 2017/2018 their engines will only be about 13 years old (having been replaced in 2005).
As such (regardless of what you think about IEP so if any IEP bashing happens please can users not respond) there will be a load of stock which will have engines which should have at least 10 years life left. Therefore what services would benefit from being run by IC125's either at full length or in a shortened form?
The obvious suggestion would be the local services in Cornwall on the main line, as they would be able to keep up with the long distance services meaning smaller gaps between services could be maintained.
The other obvious suggestion is on routes where the services run with more than one DMU's all the time and are fairly full. However some of these (such as the Waterloo-Exeter service) are not suitable as the capacity of the IC125's are less than the trains that they are replacing (3 class 159's) as capacity of the trains at peak hours is key.
