Following the Falklands conflict a lot of "Stores material" was returned to UK through Hull docks around 90 - 91.
This did pose a problem on a couple of occaisions when the locals put a brake lever on one or more of the vans. I was marking up a tamping shift at Melton when one of these trains went past billowing smoke from a couple of axles, I ran across to the signal box and got the train stopped at Crabley Creek a few miles away and about the remotest spot that there is in the area.
A full turnout of Hulls emergency services ensued followed by a station tannoy announcement at Ferriby that "All services suspended due to signalling problems"
