If it were me, I'd get over to Wales and finish it off. You ought to be able to get the Valleys you need done in a day by the looks of it, West Wales will be a piece of cake to finish off too. Otherwise I'd suggest a North East rover to clear up the red you've got there.

I do have a secret hankering to do the West Highland line as British Airways............. errrrr............ what is the best word to use......ah.....screwed up my attempted 4 years ago to use a Highland Rover Ticket to bash the West Highland with a flight delay from Heathrow, and I'd love to do South Clyde and down to Stranraer too.

If I do manage to pull off a journey back to the homeland and I can be coaxed away from my wonderful Cornwall and West Penwith, I'll do a posting here, but it'll be nothing like the standard of Techniquests postings here. I'll let you all know and look out for my London and South East Route Coverage Maps.

I've been meaning to upload a map of my coverage for ages but have never got round to it. Finally finished updating the map the other day so here it is. Most of this has been done in the last 3 years.

West Wales can be cleared a lot quicker by using the bus between Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock (or vice-versa).

Sorry I never replied to this, must have missed it at the time. Easily done as it was back when my interest in the scene really took a dive (must remember to update my signature), but you sure put a smile on my face when I read that!

The Valleys is very difficult to do in one day, even with very early and late finishes. Harder still now Ebbw Vale is back in passenger use! Plus there's the fact it's quite a nice area for scenery so well worth spreading it over two days, better than going for desperate +1 connections or worse! West Wales is a bit easier these days with through trains from the North West and indeed Fishguard now has extra trains. Much easier than doing the lunchtime or midnight boat train, formerly the only way to do it!

Lots of interesting bits to do in the Glasgow area, also if memory serves correctly Paisley Canal is going EMU from December. Or at least that was the plan earlier in the year I think. Still got 314s running around too, epic win in my eyes! Nowt wrong with 318s and 320s either to me mind. Stranraer is a nice scenic line too, and memory tells me the climb away from Girvan going to Stranraer is quite steep so if you like 156 noise you're in for a treat!

Keen to see the London and South East maps, hopefully we'll be treated to them soon You'll have my ego going through the roof

In other news, whilst it's not totally accurate in terms of layout (Sligo looks a long way from Ballina on my map, wasn't originally going to be but hey ho!), hopefully my Irish coverage map will prove to be useful for fellow IE/NIR bashers! You missed the Kilkenny Avoider Techniquest :P 1tpd Monday-Friday only, 0710 Waterford-Heuston I recall. That of course may change from the recast next year!

Aye I've just got no patience for trying that, and as you point out the Kilkenny avoider may get more use from next year. Should be interesting to see what comes about!

One reason for not bothering with doing it in the meantime is that it means more suffering 22000s, sick to the back teeth of them!

My upgraded version, completed 98% of the lines in Birmingham apart from the Snow Hill lines. Done to Hereford as well as well as parts of the WCML above Crewe

Still pretty poor, but completing line is not my main priority right now. And as I've said, most of the lines there, I've done quite a few times over and over.

I've planned a lot more line and stations for 2013 though..

Here is my updated version, sort of cheated a bit and included what I am going to be doing today (unless something goes wrong). The bits I am doing today is the line from Yeovil Pen Mill to Yeovil Junction and then the Berks and Hants which has eluded me for far too long!

My updated map after my North East trip the other day. Finally completed Whitby and Bishop Aukland. Won't be doing anymore this year. But have plans in the new year for some more to be done.

Here is my attempt using Paint. There are a lot of lines which I know I have done which are no longer in existance thanks to Dr Beeching - Most in the South West. You may notice lots of gaps, but looking back on the finished product I think there is a lot that I can be proud to have covered especially one from the St. Ives Branch line as my base.

I am a bit confused as to my coverage South of the Thames but I'll look for a decent diagram I can convert and use for more detail around the South East.

I'd like suggestions as to where I should cover during my next UK visit given that I'd have 3-4 days to move around the nation.

It's not awful weather everywhere at the moment, up here in Herefordshire at least we're doing quite nicely. Bit of flooding on the roads but nothing hugely significant.

You're going to have a very busy time then in that 7 days, if you manage to do all of that in 7 days you'll have done well. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Here's mine at the end of the year. I've recently done a Freedom of the South West rover, which means I now have most of the lines in the area it covers. I've also made progress in the Valleys and around London since the last map I posted.
