Route Coverage

Haven't updated mine for a while. Some progress made, but not nearly as much as I'd have liked. The black lines are those I would hope to have done by the end of November, assuming I can get a decent run from a financial perspective. Note that the deepest south-west, besides the Okehampton route, that I haven't done would be the Heart of Wales!

Not bad going! I still need to get on with mine, although I know it's vastly improved since whenever I last updated and posted it.

Not much done in Scotland there though is there? I finished the NR network in Scotland on a 334, the last bit I needed was the southbound bore through Dalmuir Tunnels. Plenty to do in the Quail and a good few preserved lines to do, but plans are afoot for those!

Alas, Alba is still a largely unknown location in my map. Nothing north of the Central Belt, and specifically Falkirk, as has been true for far too long. I did have plans afoot to spend a week on holiday with my father in the Highlands, and we would have done essentially everything north of Helensburgh/Perth/Aberdeen, but finances and time put paid to that. Always next summer I suppose, especially given he will want some time off after a certain sports event!

Fair play. Southend, yeah that place is dud via both routes, although I still need to return for the Pier Railway. Didn't have time during my ALR to do it, having lunch and meeting a mate was more important.

Does this mean you're back online more regularly now? Haven't seen or heard much of you for many months!

The Pier Railway isn't all that to be honest. Worth a try once, but others it's pretty uninteresting.

I am back for good now IT problems more-or-less sorted and where I do have problems I use the Uni Library instead.

I've noticed an error on that map of yours: It shows a line in purple (freight only line) heading west from Lincoln, which crosses the East Coast Main Line and links to the line between Worksop & Mansfield. Have they been building new railways all of a sudden? Never knew such a line existed! Only 2 routes are available west of Lincoln: one to Newark Northgate and one to Worksop via Gainsborough & Retford.

Looks like select freight only lines - Middlewich is shown too - but I can't think what that line is!

After a little Internet search, I take back my words! It turns out to be a former route from Lincoln to Chesterfield. Originally known as the Lancashire, Derby & East Coast Railway, and it was the only section which was completed. Part of the line still exists, from Shirebrook Junction to the former power station at High Marnham (now a Network Rail test track, since High Marnham closed several years ago). The line closed in 1955 and was lifted (apart from the section I just mentioned).

Lincoln to Chesterfield was the Great Central's Dukeries (formerly LD&ECR) line done on an evening tour from York to Lincoln in the 1980s.
There are a number of closed and lifted lines I've included on my map. Whilst timetabled passenger routes are shown by both inclusion and exemption; freight and heritage lines are only shown by inclusion. I have not shown tram/light rail systems, pier and cliff railways in any form.

This year I hope to add more of the ECML, break into wales and expand my network in East Anglia and south of London.

Here's my coverage since 1980, minus a few routes that have closed since then (eg Clayton West, Balloch Pier, Old ECML York-Donny, Sheffield-Leeds via Cudworth) and no preserved railways although I might add them at some point.

Plan to cover the rest of East Anglia in a day this year plus Stranraer which for some reason I missed out when Roving around scotland in the 80s. Also currently planning to try and cover as much new stuff as possible with an East Midlands Rover.

My latest effort, with the main highlights being part of the West of England Main Line and and a partial bridging of my Devon/Cornwall gap. I now only have a red stretch between Keyham and Liskeard, not Newton Abbot and Liskeard.

First, download the template available in Post #1.

Open the file in MS Paint, and use the colour selector to select the blue colouring present in the top-left of the map. You will notice that using the Fill tool at this point will fill any two connected areas in blue. Instead, use the pencil to draw across any point that should not be done, to protect it from being filled in, and when ready fill in the lines as required. Done!

This hasn't been explained very well. Instead, look at the attachment. Assume a person has just done a stopping journey from Sheffield to Swinton...

Has anyone a PSUL from which they could help with the routing of Fishguard trains in 1998/99? I am interested to learn which were routed via the Swansea District Line (Court Sart/Briton Ferry - Morlais) and which went via Swansea Loop (Landore Swansea Loop West)

Whilst most of my coverage is in the SE, I've done the short stretch from Lelant Saltings to St Ives and I've been from one of the Falkirk stations to Edinburgh as well (although that is not shown as I've yet to determine which it was!).

My latest coverage map is finally done, after months of not bothering I recently got the template again and coloured it in earlier. As far as I can see it's error free right now, although I've neglected to add some curves still to do or done. I've added at least some preserved lines that I've done, hence the strange looking bits and bobs like the ESR and Gwilli on my map. Anyway, here it is:
