I travelled on 4057 on Sunday. I don't know when it came back from refurbishment, but one set of doors was faulty and locked out of use.

And as for that door-opening tone - surely whoever specified that has never travelled on a train in their life! Along with the CIS constantly going 'ding' every few seconds - travelling on the Metro is quite a noisily unpleasant experience these days. :(

On page 14 of issue 203 of Today's Railways Europe is a picture of a train on the Napoli ( Naples ) Metro; it looks virtually identical to a Tyne & Wear unit. Was the design sold there then? I had thought it was unique to the T&W?

Hmm... other than the front end having three windows (which isn't unique), I don't see it myself.

My jaw dropped open at this. Lifting your hand is "swearing at him" ??????
Ive lifted my hand hundreds of times. Thumbs up too (he'd probably interpret it as a death threat )

This kind of thing gets people REALLY stressed out, feeling they are getting it from all sides. Tripe like this is just the tip of the iceberg (notice he's refusing to allow any comments disagreeing with him or asking what the hell he's doing on a crossing ?) It's SOLELY to make him feel "important"
Things like this just piles stress on stress.:(

Sadly, Alex doesn't seem to realise that he is in the wrong with alot of this (regardless of the other side), and that it's all going to end in tears sooner or later. I'm very surprised it has been allowed to go on this long without DB/Nexus taking action against him.

Needless to say, with the rather close-kint way of the rail industry, he's very likely removing any chance of future employment on the railway too!

Does anyone else feel the same, in that every time they see this kind of thing, a small part of their interest in the railway dies?

Agreed. It doesn't have that stupid arrangement with the half width cab.
But that arrangement does have the advantage of giving passengers a forward view... just look how popular those front seats are on Metros!

Yes but a train driver should have a proper full width cab - just like the 1st generation DMUs did.

Suely its time to kick him off the system now? He appears to be getting into trouble almost every other week.

Also on the subject of refurbishments, does anybody know which trains are currently in Doncaster? From what ive heard, 4053 came back recently so that should be the only one in commisioning atm, 4049 and 15 are definitely in Doncaster and theres a good chance 4087 is also down there. Havent seen 4012 and 4044 since they failed a couple of months ago either, does anybody know what has happened to those 2 cars?

Although he has claimed in the past to work for Metro/DB, and also has said he will be working for them in the future, I'd be very surprised if Nexus or DB ever take him on as staff. He was out on the system again at the weekend, although when North Shields was reopened he was asked to leave. The number of 'incidents' he has been involved in is creeping up and it'll not be long before he is either told not to take any more pictures from Metro property or banned altogether, despite him claiming to be 'friends' with a number of inspectors or drivers.

It looks like to me in all fairness it was the V sign rather than an hand wave gesture so technically he was "sworn" at, that said he was filming on metro property so he is committing an offense himself.

And it looks like to me he was behind the line whilst filming on the crossing bit and as he is off metro property then I don't see he done anything wrong there.

Personally speaking as a passenger, I'm more concerned about that "checky watch" FB page than some teenager just doing what he likes doing!

Regarding 4012/44, It is interesting to know what has happened to these 2 units, won't be too surprised if one or both of them are in Doncaster getting refurbished. The last time I seen them was in Pelaw sidings waiting to be rescued by 2 other units back to Gosforth Depot and that was the day after those thunderstorms in early August.

I've certainly still not seen either of those units for some time now either, along with 4087.

4020 and 4037 also seemed to disappear towards the end of August/beginning of September, though I saw 4037 back in service again last week, still unrefurbished.

If anyones interested, some pop card barriers have been installed in the concourse of Jesmond Metro Station, it a tiny bit smaller than the London Underground but still looks good

Its his attempts to report drivers for no reason he's despised for. He has reported drivers after chatting with them. He's THAT kind of creature. THAT is why he's disliked.
PLUS a note has gone up telling drivers NOT to allow filming on Metro property (And the Airport platform isn't ?) and it's down ENTIRELY to his spiteful activities.

As I said, he was committing an offense for filming on the platform, not disputing that.

Although I don't film trains in general, I do find it rather sad that filming Tyne & Wear Metro trains are not allowed yet filming is accepted on the LU despite being in a high risk area for terrorism. I think people who do film/take photos of trains are risking themselves from abuse from other passengers however that is down to the person to look after themselves and if passengers don't want to be filmed on the platform then move out of shot? Anyways, going by his videos, it does not seem passengers really care whether or not they are in the shots.

On the note of that new train wash, must say its hardly effective in its job, spraying water onto trains does not clean them, infact it just makes them more filthy once the water dries out. Personally, I think more measures should be in place of having the trains hand washed way more often therefore you don't get dirt streaks appearing in places. Infact, after watching "The Tube", I'm sure they said the trains are hand washed rather than a machine?

Forced on them, I'm afraid. It's far from the first time someone has tried to make a mountain out of a molehill due to taking pictures or filming. There are quite a number trying to "catch out drivers" who don't actually need to be doing anything wrong, by the way. Its like a game with quite a few. Instead of shooting zombies, they're firing at drivers....
Had one the other day. I pulled a face at him - jokey, while at a stand - thumbs against temples, waggling fingers, tongue stuck out sort of thing - but no doubt there'll be a complaint following it.
Most people are just interested in taking pics. But it's not just a "tiny minority" doing it out of vindictive spite, either, sadly
If these people think they are being given "power" over drivers, they'll use it indiscriminately. Thats why the company have no option. If the people have to ask permission, maybe it'll reign them in properly. Sensible, surely ?

Funnily enough he was spotted at South Gosforth today and told off from taking pictures.

Saw 4037 and 4008 failed at Pelaw Sidings this afternoon, wouldnt be too surprised if 37 is one of the next cars to go to Doncaster, for some reason most of the cars that do go down make a brief return to service after not being seen for a while.

4012 is still in the north east, saw it this morning paired with 4011. I noticed Huw posted on the nexus forum (which now doesnt let me make posts, for some reason) that 3 cars were out of service for a while due to the floods, so I suspect 4044 will still be in the north east as well. Dont know which unit could be the 3rd one damaged by the floods but I would guess that it would be either 4037, which has recently returned to service, or 4020, which I havent seen for a couple of months now.

4053 has also returned to passenger service, saw it paired with 4061 while coming home this evening. I'm pretty sure its the 12th car to enter passenger service.

44 is apparently at the depot, may have been one of the casualties of the floods a few months back.

I think it could be 4087 because this is the only metrocar I have not seen for a few months now and the one that has not been reported heading down to Doncaster. 4012 and 4044 are the ones I'm pretty certain got damaged by the floods as they were paired at the time and my last sighting of them were in Pelaw sidings the day after the 5th August storms and it was rescued by 2 other metrocars later that day. 4020 has been in service after those storms so this unit was not affected and its probably getting refurbished right now whereas 4037 was only missing for a few weeks or so but seen it today(paired with 4021) appeared to of been withdrawn from service as it was in the sidings by Gosforth, so that might of been the train that broke down but not too sure.

I was on 4053 today(by a lucky chance) which happened to of terminated at Kingston Park because of this mornings disruption but this was running on TRB102 yet apparently later in the day a train was withdrawn from service and I thought it was 4053/61 as 4028/4055 was now running TRB102, what service did you saw this set on?

Looking at CoachAlex's photos, it would appear 4049 is also back from refurbishment but its a little hard too see the unit number to be fully sure.

4029 is going to Doncaster today, with one due to return. 4044 is definitely at the depot.

Didnt catch where 53/61 were going yesterday evening, as I only saw it by pure luck whilst travelling home from work. I saw the units leaving Gateshead at about 5pm yesterday, so I'd assume they were running during the evening peaks if they were withdrawn from service earlier that day. Apparently they were running the Airport/South Hylton line today but I didn't see them.

Also noticed today that 4012's front end now looks a little bit different as it is a different shade of yellow in comparison to other unrefurbished units, though I dont know whether the B end has had similar treatment. It'll be interesting to see how long it is before 44 is back out, and whether there are any noticeable visual changes to the car. I'm pretty sure 87 disappeared a couple of weeks before the August floods.
