They were all planned or constructed, but never opened to passenger use.

Opne floor if correct, as I shall be away from my computer for part of this week.

I will hazard a guess at underground railways purely based on the one at Rokeby in Vermont
Unfortunately I have no idea re Roderic so if correct whoever gets this should have the floor

Leicester city museums owns 3 locomotives. One was built for the power station, one was built for the gas board, but who built the third one and for where. For a bonus point, the locos are not in Leicester anymore. Where are they?

Was the third one built by Gimson's for the Abbey Sewage Pumping Station?

Some locos have had the same number more than once where they have been renumberered then renumbered back again.

There are a very small number of locos where two different locos have had the same number at different times. How many can you name.

As a supplementary question one of these locos was renumbered to a sub-class then reverted to its' original number then was given a different number in the same sub-class but not one that had previously been used. Can you name the original number.

Diesel and Electrics only, I am not including steam.

37271-4 inclusive are the obvious ones.
There have been two 86501s as well.
And a whole bunch of 76s swapped identities to get the mw ones together numerically.

Post #1066 came up at the top of the page, so I didn't realise that the previous one was still active...

Answer to Mvann's question:

Is the third Leicester owned loco a standard 5 4-6-0 (73129??) currently resident at the MRC, Butterley?

No it's not. All the locos owned by Leicester were tank engines. Most of the other engines at Leicester during the 70s were part of the national collection.

As a clue, someone seems to want to brush this one under the carpet and welshed the deal. Also, if anyone reads railway magazine, as far as I know, it hasn't been repainted in Brunswick green.

As no one has got the answer, it is the Brush built sadle tank built for the powlesland and mason railway. All three locos were moved to snibston discovery park in the 1990s.

Open floor for now.

It appears as though we can continue with my question as the original one has been answered.

Those are correct so far but there are some more.

Plus we still have part two of the question.

I should add I am only looking for TOPS numbers not pre-TOPS.

08296 and 08787 have swapped identities, albeit after being sold of for industrial use.

The original 27103 became 272xx (210?) and so 27118 was renumbered 27103 instead - might be the andswer to part 2??

The original 45054 was renumbered 45150 - also might be part 2??

47538 is an interesting one. Two locos carried the number, but at the same time!. One of them was renumbered in error and quickly altered. because it was an error and not an official renumbering, official records don't acknowledge that it happened.

All good answers but not the one I am looking for. It is neither of the 27/1 27/2 and neither of them reverted back to the same sub class for a second time with a different number. Again 45054 became 45150 but never went back again.

The loco I am looking for is still operational.

I will explain a little more.

If the locos initial number was Class 00 and allocated 00001

It was then renumbered to sub class 00/1 and became 00101

It then reverted back to original number 00001.

I was renumbered to 00/1 again a number of years later but 00002 00/0 loco had become 00101 so it this time it 00103. It became a 00/1 for a second time but with a different number. I think this is the only case of this happening but stand to be corrected.

What is the identity of 00001.

As there appears to be no more takers for part two the answer is:

20194.

It originally became 20307 but then reverted back to 20194 again.

Second time around 20128 became 20307 but 20194 became 20313.

20301 to 20308 were used twice first by BR for Buxton dedicated locos and again by DRS.

OK - try this:-

A trained 19c cabinet-maker cum station-master on the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway revolutionised rail travel with his invention. What was it, and who was he?
Incidentally, his invention was first used on a railway other than the Newcastle & Carlisle. For a bonus point, can you name the Company?

We have had this question before. I'll leave others to answer as I'm going out to dinner tonight and haven't got a question to put up.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
Thomas Edmondson first used his ticket-issuing invention on the Manchester and Leeds Railway, prior to its usage on the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway.

I am sure that I set this conundrum some many months ago when his employment at the Gillow factory in Lancaster was mentioned, coupled to the fact that he was a member of the Religious Society of Friends.

Correct on both counts - Thomas Edmondson and his printed and numbered tickets were first used on the Manchester & Leeds Railway.

A senior moment, I gather. I'd forgotton you'd set the question earlier!!
