I would argue that Branson's voyagers and the contraptions used by ATW seen at Bangor are not 'completely different types of train' - I see both as modern plastic DMUs.

Don't you think that's just a bit harsh? The Bombardier-built Voyagers are certainly different to the Alstom-built 175s and the various BREL units that can turn up.

I am harsh. I would say though that the 175s were originally to be 180s, until a change in the design, so are very similar to a 125mph DMU. The Voyagers are also DMUs. I don't think it worthy of a penalty, I just envisages 'completely different' as comparing say, loco hauled trains with slam doors to some form of modern unit.

I would like clarifcation as to whether Brush count as a "train manufacturer of the post-privatisation era", as they have manufactured trains since privatisation but not for use on BR (unless a 92 was comissioned after privatisation). I have had a coupke of GWR ideas but discounted them on this basis due to the 57s (which were manufactured and rebuilt by Brush - unless all 4 of the Laira ones are Crewe built).

Class 180s operated by FGW don't come anywhere near Cheltenham, they are only used on the Cotswold Line.
