Sorry, I'm new and I'm gonna sound stupid but how do the trains run out of Marylebone along the Chiltern network...there's no overhead wires and if I rightly recall there's no third rail!? Can anyone fill me in? Thanks

They are diesel :)
Oh right! So all their trains are diesel, as opposed to the electric trains which run on Silverlink, First Capital Connect, Southern etc which all use third rail/overhead wires? So they all use diesel fuel and therefore there's no need for electric equipment? :o

Thats right! They run to Alyesbury, Usually Birmingham Snow Hill and sometimes Kidderminster! They use class 168 and Class 165 units and the Class 121 Bubble car sometimes on the Aylesbury Line!

Oh right! Are there any other diesel powered networks within London (ones that don't need third rail/overhead)?

Most of the services out of Paddington are diesels, the only exceptions being the Heathrow trains. St Pancras is all diesel aswell, although that's only used for Intercity services, with suburban trains tunneling under to Kings Cross Thameslink. All of the other London stations are almost totally electric, although Kings Cross has some HSTs on Intercity services, and Liverpool St, Waterloo and London bridge have some diesels too, and Euston sees Voyagers on Hollyhead services.

Plus theres the Virgin Voygaer via Kensington. Most freight trains are operated by diesels. All services from Paddington (excluding Heathrow Connect/Express) are diesel.

As far as i can remember anyway I'm not a Chiltern person as such until Banbury then up. But i'd travel Chiltern to London, nice views.

Something I've always wanted to do after being in a traffic jam [M40/M42?] for 45mins+ and being overtaken by two Chilterns in roughly the same spot!
