YP before 10am?

From what I knew YP fares were not available on CDR's before 10am.

However National Rail seems intent on letting me book this one and a few others too.

As these exceptions or the stereotypical NRES failure?

AFAIK, as long as your paying a minimum price (I think it's £8), then it's ok. Over to Yorkie to explain fully....

Ah yes, those complicated and annoying minimum fares, that lead to all sorts of anomalies!

Cheap Day tickets are indeed £8 minimum, as are Savers. However, Standard Day/Standard Open return fares are £16 minimum. You'll struggle to find many SOR costing less than £24 anyway, given that they are long distance ticket type. The SDR restriction is probably to stop young commuters getting a cheaper deal than a season ticket.

Nationalrail.co.uk will not sell you any tickets, so there is no point using it (IMO). If thetrainline offers such a ticket, purchase it and bring confirmation details in case you are challenged (in reality, you won't be), as the TOCs have then entered into a contract which they cannot legally refuse to fulfil at that price.

But shoving incorrect details off NRES in front of a ticket seller is unlikely to hold water

BTW it's worth mentioning that the minimum fares are abolished during July/August, bear that in mind for next Summer!

I paid £9 or whatever it was to get to Leeds the first time I did that journey at peak time, then I thought of a way round it and asked for a ticket to Hebden Bridge (about twice the distance) instead, this allowed me to get a Saver and only pay £8. I always got away with using a fully discounted CDR ticket on the 09:43 Virgin HST to Leeds though!

GNER's new ticket site would sell it but every other site through the stereotypical paddy.

It seems valid enough and gets me to one of the last places I havent got on the Northern network (along with Brigg, Ellesmere Port and the Bolton - Blackburn line).

Just hoping really that my Northern adopters pass arrives sooner rather than later!

GNER's site has a few bugs, I've found one in particular that could save quite a few quid on some journeys! If they paid me, I'd help them debug the site, but it's not my job so....

But I am not going to reveal them here. I may be tempted to discuss them on MSN Messenger though.

You've found a rather useful bug, but I suspect it will be fixed fairly soon, now that it's been publicly announced on this forum!

Well if its the case that after 0930 the YP is valid due to it meeting the minimum fare then all should be OK!

Had no problems at all buying the ticket. Delays galore though thanks to a Virgin having to do York to Leeds on one engine. Had a one minute connection from 14 to 13 at Picc with TPE services a good 30 mins down!

Ah yes the old Minimum Fare on the YP Ticket.

I used to commute daily to Chelmsford, and got away with fully discounted CDR before 10am (FGE Fares easement allowed CDRs to be valid north and east of Shenfield) no fuss. I dunno whether the avantix would be quite so dumb as Sportis was when it came to this kind of thing!
