Your nicknames for stations

I’ve heard both Okey and Barney for Okehampton and Barnstaple respectively.

Many locals refer to Bradford on Avon as ‘Bower’ (BOA).

Trowbridge is also sometimes referred to as Trowvegas. I also occasionally hear Chippenham as ‘ Chippers’.

Chippers is probably my favourite to use (I'm sure some very keen people may notice the location of my profile picture), and after a trip to Plymouth last year I now refer to it as Plymvegas...

The once I was on the adventure golf and what do I see going past (unexpectedly) 6233 Duchess of Sutherland. Luckily I checked on RTT and saw that it was returning later that day and caught going full wack nearing 80 MPH. Happy days

The Shepperton and Teddington loop services used to be (and maybe still are?) called the Sheppy and Teddy at Waterloo, but I've never heard the actual towns referred to as that.

You learn something new every day, I've been in Hinckley over 10 years and never heard it referred to as that . The Tin Hat pub is pretty decent though

I once met a booking office employee whose nickname for Hamworthy was Tamworth.

As in, I asked for a ticket to Hamworthy. He replied “Tamworth”. I said “no, Hamworthy”. He said, “Yes, Tamworth is my nickname for Hamworthy” and gave me the correct ticket.

I did wonder whether he was best suited to the job he was doing.

I've heard some less complimentary nicknames for Sheerness, also Basildon which is often referred to as Basildump.
