Your favourite model train ever!

As you know, models are things to be loved. But some are loved so much, that they are kept running for decades. Now it's your turn to tell your favourite model from any era. My fav is my Smoky Joe. It was the first model I ever got and I fell in love almost immediatley. He's a good runner and he can easily take a long train of trucks or a few coaches. He's also very fast and easily can take on a model Mallard*.








*This may not be true as I don't have a Mallard but if I get one I will definitely race 'em.

It is true! I DO have both a Smokey Joe and "Mallard" model, and have done for a number of years now, and it is true that Smokey Joe WILL outrun "Mallard" haha! In fact, although my Mallard model has been suffering from various Ringfield motor problems for a while, "Smokey Joe" is still going strong.

So yep, the little Hornby Caledonian Pugs are one of my favourite models, I have quite a few of them actually, as my layout is based around an industrial steam preservation project, they're really reliable, simple little things.

My ultimate favs are probably the Hornby J94 0-6-0ST and the Lima/Hornby class 156.

And I've got a soft spot for the Hornby class 110 DMU and the Bachmann Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 too.

My favorite railway model, is my Class 411 4CEP, runs like a beauty and is a great unit altogether. Although when I get my Class 466 'Networker' and Class 423 VEPs these will hopefully be all joint place.

From what I own, its a toss up between the Bachmann First ScotRail 158 or my full rake Hornby Midland Mainline HST.

I would like to say the Bachmann 4-CEP, and although a beautiful looking model that runs well I am very disappointed with the lighting, in the intermediate coaches it is quite bright, but in the end coaches it is very dim indeed, in fact in one of them the guards van is brighter than the rest of the coach and yes they were connected correctly and I run on DC not DCC.

I have to agree the Hornby 153s are very nice, but my personal fave has to be the Bachmann Class 37, 37429.

And in my opinion there is absolutley nothing wrong with that!

For nostalga's stake, it's a tough one. And all I can look to is nostalga because I haven't ran a model in about a decade (don't have the room). As a kid, I didn't have favourites as I loved them all equally, but today, my 4468 "Mallard" I got in the 1990s claims title as my favourite. Recently though, she suffered a fall and the rear coupler snapped off, and I was thinking of getting some LNER teaks to display with her.

I've also taken a liking to an 08 shunter in BR Blue livery. Great wee loco, and the last one I ran. Unfortunetly, she ran into a problem and entered storage two years ago. I've since brought her back out for display.

The Railroad one? Asking because I'm getting that in a few weeks and can't seem to find much reviews on it.

Sorry I don't know, I got it about 10 years ago now, and all I remember about it is that its a Hornby model.

Hornby HSTs are very fast have you tried putting yours to full speed with all 8 MK3s? My Virgin livery HST is like a bullet at full speed!

It's close for me between the Triang Britannia and the Triang Jinty 47606. If pushed I would go with the Brit, but '606 was my first, and you always remember your first with fondness.

The latest Hornby Castles, preferably 5068 Beverston Castle. It runs perfectly, and even looks great now I straightened the bent handrail.:roll:

My father has a Triang A4 'Sir Nigel Gresley', which he has had since the early 70s and is still a runner. Not as detailed as some of the newer models, but goes like ferret up a drainpipe. It weighs half a ton, so the traction seems pretty good too.

Back to Trains.. It would be my Southern 171, altough it has the wrong lights, it runs well and sounds great
