I recently had an enlightening conversation with a friend about what we would like to be buried with when the inevitable time comes. This was inspired by one mutual friend being dispatched with a model locomotive in one hand and a cheese sandwich in the other. Meanwhile another friend who was an accomplished amateur archaeologist was buried with some of his finds in order to confuse archaeologists of the future.
This in turn got me thinking about my own choice of five objects, namely:
1- My teddy bear which my father bought on the day I was born
2- A bar of Cadbury’s Fruit & Nut
3- An old OS map covering my childhood explorations of recently closed down railway lines in Sussex
4- My battered old copy of ‘Hitler my part in his downfall’ by Spike Milligan
5- A bottle of Harvey’s stout

I would be intrigued to know your ideas for what your own personal choices would be.

Not exactly goods, but I did bounce around an idea as a joke last year that maybe I should have a plank underneath my head to mid-back, loaded with a spring under my head, so that when some archaeologist discovers me in 1000 years time and carefully prises the lid off................

Up the creek
My thought was to have a pencil and badly scribbled note saying: ‘I wasn’t that ill’. Alternatively an empty condom packet and three used condoms, so if they ever disinter me…
