If you want an idea, I saw the local Early Intervention in Psychosis team for TWO YEARS. The only good it did me was being the course that ultimately led to me finally getting a full diagnosis of AS - and, I suppose, making me better at pool. (Which really isn't saying much.)

My biggest regret right now? Going to university instead of joining the RAF, now virtually no money, in a mountain of debt, no job and what seems like no hope :(

My biggest regret? The way things turned out with the ex-girlfriend turned out when I was only defending her and things turned on me...

At a party I was at her and her friends were getting drunk when one of her male friends decided to get hold of her and throw her against a cabnet splitting her back open, I confronted him about at which point he turned very confrontational and violent. I warned him several times to back off he didn't and got even more violent so and was pusing me around at which point I took him down which soon stopped him in his tracks...

It may seem a very nasty way of doing things but I feel personally I was defending her and myself and I had no over choice, just a lesson to be learnt about being tad bit drunk.

Anyway after this she stood by him, even after her friends witnessed and told her it was him and I was only defending her and myself... Just a shame, I'm not proud of it but I find it pretty hurtful. As I said its not a good way of dealing with the problem but if your in that position you've got few choices.

Regret to me is something in the past that you should have done or had done differently.

I wish I had done a lot of things differently but the one regret I do have it not having the strength to confront someone for what they did.
I have the strength, tenacity and willpower since then to go on with life but I regret not asking “why”

Not yet doing something is not something to regret, because what is stopping you from doing it.

Always live life as you want, there will be mountains of problems to overcome but be yourself, believe in yourself and have the desire to love who you are and what you want in life. Life may not be that long so enjoy it every day.

My only regret in life is not telling one of my friends how I really felt about her, the fact that she could have got a modelling job with any large fashion house had no bearing on my attraction to her at all.

Mind you as I grew up near her, I never thought about dating her until it really was too late.

Still never mind, life goes on....

Going to University. I am a game maker, and a member of game making forums - my friends are rich as hell because they have their games released and making very tidy profits. I, on the other hand, am learning nothing relevent to game making on a game making course, and have no real games of which to speak for.

Looking back I feel I could have done nore studying when at University as well as not asking a girl I had a crush on for over a year out when I had the chance.

A saying I heard recently which I did think of when I read this thread.

''You mustn't let mistakes wear you down, acknowledge them and take what you have learned and move on that is the priviledge of being a man''

Somehow I agree with that saying

I don't know whether it's funny or sad that this thread has been dominated by love stories. So many people on here have provided us with an insight into their previous shortcomings in relation to that one emotion that seems so difficult to ascertain - and if you look through my *essay*, you will find the second biggest regret of my life is itself a misguided tale of love. Is love - or the invariable lack thereof - really the biggest regret in a person's life? Do we all really have to persevere through stories of pain and heartbreak before finally finding the one with whom we will finally (hopefully?) find happiness...?

The Greek playwright Sophocles once wrote "Call no man happy till he is dead". Sounds grim, but the message is that you never know what twists life will throw at you for good or ill till it is over. I can look back at 58 years of choices I could have made differently - career, romance, everything - and could be overwhelmed with regrets. Then I look at where I have come to, with a lovely wife and family, busy and satisfied, and I wonder what of all this I would give up to avoid any of those regrets - and the answer is none of it. I may lose it all in the next five minutes, of course. But, as of now, those regrets are pointless. Grasp what you can of now, the good and bad, knowing that regret is pointless. Even if you do go back to try to take the path you lost, you are doing that as a different person, the one you are today!

Regrets, I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention....

I used to regret certain things in my past - the way certain things had gone on and my reaction to those events - but as the years have gone on, I am now incredibly thankful for what I now have and wouldn't change it for the world

To be fair it doesn't sound as though you had much choice at the time. Even if you'd called for outside assistance, it probably would have taken time to arrive by which time there's no telling what this bloke might have done.

Infact i do have a regret. Jumping off a 12(?might be 9 cant remember)m diving board at metrodome leisure centre in barnsley, my shorts shredded and i had to walk (with my hands in protective cup) past all queues for water slides cafe and childrens area to get to changing rooms...... I regret not jumping off the 1m one.

For me, I have three.

1 - Not sticking up for myself when I was in school and so suffering years of bullying. I naively thought that the teachers and staff would give a damn. Instead, I was blamed. Constantly. No wonder why so many people suffer bullying when the teachers clearly don't care whatsoever, and if anything make efforts to downplay / cover up any bullying that does happen!

2 - Spending too much time trying to get over two certain girls rather than just getting on with my life. But I suppose that did eventually lead me to meeting my current girlfriend (of over 2 years now).

3 - Not being there when my Gran passed away 2 years ago. This one still hurts me. I didn't really have much choice as I had a university exam (and not turning up would have hurt my marks badly). But I still wish I had been there (for her and my parents). I suppose I had the chance to say goodbye.

Put it like this, while I didn't have to go through half of what you did (fair play to you for battling through it and such by the way, you deserve every success you end up getting!), I felt somewhat similar in terms of love / romance not long ago in the grand scheme of things. Never did I expect myself to have a stable long term relationship by the time I finish university (only got five months left now!).
