I am 15, as most know and I have realised I may be lucky to travel alone and I just want to help other young people like myself to travel to fabolous citys!
Reasonable priced citys and areas such as: York, Leeds, Keighley, Scarbrough, Sheffield and other places a like. I have had this idea for quite some time and I wanna help and support younger people to socialise and explore places while been safe aswell. This get kids off the street and altho it's a little number of people it still is getting young people off the street and doing something fun while also learning exploring skills and during summer it will be a good idea! The young people will recieve times and fares and I will help thme as much as possible to get them there as cheaply as I can. No one will be judged by race/appearance or anything like that! We are equal and young people will gain a lot out of it and can make many new friends!

I was wondering what do you guys think of this idea?
I have three friends at the moment aged 13,14 and 15 and they are also train enthusiasts and they like the sound of days out.
Benefits:
Good excersize
Using map skills - can be useful for future life
Meeting new people and been in a safe environment
Exploration skills
and generally having good a good day out with people of their age! :)

I don't know what this threads about nor do I know what its got to do with NR, non the less assuming its a what do young people do thread well here goes

Im 17 and my mates ages range about abit, I hang out wth thouse (?? should read those im typing in bummie maybe no?) my ages and socialise with a few that have been out since way beofre I was born

Usually Ill go to a pres line or on a tour and ermm thats about it apart from the odd mids ranger, bail off the loco/train off to pub or chippy (or both as was the case on monday) then back on the train/tour

Its good because it means we get to all meet up in one place and have a good laugh and meet a few others, for me Saturday was this case I got to meet a few others I hadnt met before and had a good time behind 50044.

If you are going to organise it officially, then you will need risk assessments, people over 18 to accompany you - they will need CRB checks etc etc.
If something happened and it was proved that you organised these trips without the proper paperwork and procedures then the stool may well hit the rotary device.

Bring back the "Rail Riders Club" then!
Sadly, the train companies are more interested in "Trakkies" trakkies.co.uk and that is about as far as they are willing to go

You therefore might want to consider joining a local club or the ICRS icrs.org.uk
However I have great reservations about such clubs as they are not required to check members under disclosure (although they should check the organisers)

I can see what your saying with the risks and all that. It was kind of an idea for independecy for younger groups so I guess I can't do that without adult accompaniment? and i'm not too sure of the risks - I mean i travel solely and risks for me have been low. Is there any company or anything I can seek advice to get it running or anything?

If it is a social meeting then you can organise it amongst yourselves
However, you may run into an issue on visiting certain stations

I suggest you write to the relevant TOC responsible for the stations you intend to visit on a regular basis and see what their policy is on personal and group access to platforms

I recently had to make a group access to Glasgow Central
We all had to attend a briefing and sign the visitors book (which took about 30 minutes)
As the group leader I was issued with the visitors pass
At the end I signed everyone out and handed the pass back

If you think that is bad, try visiting an airport!

Yeah it's just generally a social meeting thing. And do you have to contact them for the rail enthusiast trips? because I was thinking we will be doing Rail Enthusiast trips and also day trips (for non-enthusiasts and enthusiasts alike) in Citys. And wow thats quite long!

If it is simply you and group of friends, then just follow the NR Rules for Enthusiasts

In the 1980s I used to meet up with people at Glasgow Central
We would then travel to a different place, depending on what people recommended
This included trips to Bellshill (for Mossend), Motherwell, or Paisley

Equally, if you are travelling between stations, each person will already hold a ticket so platform access isn't usually an issue
Therefore write in advance

I've been stopped before on a platform, simply showed my ticket and been left alone

Yeha its just me and a group of young friends.

Yeah will be doing similar ideas of meeting up at one station and then together at another station, all of them will get the info and ticket price and generally won't be in much trouble for catching wrong trains etc.
And yeah I will write in advance to the TOC to let them know we are visiting the station and get permission for a small group to meet and to do our hobby.

Thank you very much for the information, it's been helpful!

Organise it yourself!

Use the Forum Meets section if you think it'll help you (although not too many members are of that age!)

I am 21 now, but when I was 13/14, I went with 1 or 2 friends for School/my street, to the likes of Delamere, Preststyn, Rhyl, Ellesmere Port, Liverpool, Wrexham.
Also we went to watch Chester City away away games.
As long as your parents know were your going and wat time you will be back, and you stick together, you will be fine.

Dont believe what some of these other people have writtin in this thread about getting permission to travel etc.

I'm sure kids get on their own on the train to get to school, so there are no issues what so ever with people your age travelling on a train.

cheers, robert

There is not a problem (as already stated) if it is just a group of friends, however, as I pointed out, the OP said he would like to run trips for young people, and that is the point where things would have to be done officially.

Now you say it is just your friends, yet your first post definately suggests it being more of a "club" thing.

fabolous citys!
Reasonable priced citys and areas such as: York, Leeds, Keighley, Scarbrough, Sheffield and other places a like

I don't think you could describe some of those places as fabulous! Nor are they reasonably priced for anyone who doesn't live in Yorkshire. (NB: This last comment is NOT a suggestion I would be interested in joining your club even if the "fabolous" areas were a bit more accessible for me)

My Profile said:
Location: Ashurst New Forest

That kinda gives it away does it not?

If you don't know where the New Forest is, it's a National Park in the south of the county of Hampshire, which itself is on the south coast of England, south-west from London.

Don't worry about it, I clearly said in my first post that personally I wasn't interested, but other people from other parts of the UK may well be.
