For my birthday tomorrow, a trip lasting between 6 and 8 hours, costing ideally less than £10 and visiting stations whose first letters spell out CHRIS. Start from Liverpool Lime Street.

eg: Cuddington - Helsby - Runcorn - Irlam - Stafford

Good look finding other options than Irlam!

A decent suggestion for a rover ticket to cover the journey would be much appriciated. Many thanks in advance!

Go nuts!

A Cheshire Day Ranger is £18 or about £12 if you have a railcard, and you can visit all the stations you mention!

Driving my desk...
Capenhurst - Hooton - Rice Lane - Ince & Elton (good luck with that one...) - Sandhills. Well, you never said it had to be exciting.... All for the price of an all-zones saveaway plus an add-on from Ellesmere Port to Ince.

I may well consider that one. We'll be stopping off in each destination to do "something exciting" so the journey itself can be as boring as we like!

Thanks for your help. Keep 'em coming!

That rules out a lot of local stations then...

three more, picked at random but probably do-able:

Crewe - Hartford - Runcorn - Irlam - Stockport

Chester - Helsby - Runcorn East - Irlam - Salford Cresent

Conway Park - Hoylake - Roby - Ince - Swinton

it doesn't fit many of your criteria - but if you have a half-birthday, I think there is a nice one you could do in the summer! (a FOTNW would cover it)

Carlisle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale (walk) Ribblehead, Ilkley, Skipton. I think they are all places that would be worth stopping in.

Wuld you pass through Skipton before going back to it? That could take some time (though the train I was on last night went from Skipton to Ilkley without touching Bradford or Leeds).
