York Siemens depot is being extended. Are they taking on any extra maintenance when the new Mark Vs and 800s are introduced, or is there another reason?

Didn't I read where Siemens was awarded a contract for new London Tube trains (Piccadilly, etc).
May not be connected to that, but just a thought.

According to BBC it’s in Goole, there was a leagal challenge (Bombidier) but its sorted now, but it’s gonna take two years to build.

It isn't "sorted" TfL have been allowed to proceed with signing the contract to minimise delay but Bombardier /Hitachi + Alstom are seeing TfL in court in November 2019, that was the bit TfL have been failing to mention publicly! (The Mayor doesn't like bad news).
Setting the court dates for the main case (they need a big window and suitable judge, as well as time to prepare) as a condition of the injunction on signing being lifted. The TfL press release wording was very careful in that follow up orders for the 3 other lines are now less certain (it is highly likely they could have to retender for the other 3 lines and very expensive in terms of damages for TfL - refunding bid costs being the cheapest.)
